Karen Joyce Weaver, 64 of Devils Lake, ND passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake after a lifelong battle with Diabetes.
Karen Joyce, daughter of Delno Weaver and Mildred Stroh Stotts, was born in Fargo, ND on July 23, 1950. At the age of 2 Karen was diagnosed with diabetes. As a result of that, she lost her hearing at that age also.
When Karen was 6 years old, the family moved from a farm at Englevale, ND to Devils Lake so that Karen could attend the School for the Deaf. After graduating, Karen worked for a short time for Lyle Harrington at the City Center Motel with the cleaning staff. She then went to work at One Hour Martinizing as a seamstress. She had to terminate that employment as the diabetes was again taking its toll and she was losing her eyesight. Karen moved back home to be with her Mother as blindness was setting in.
But Karen did not want to be idle. She folded the church bulletins for St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and helped her Mother with her DayCare. She could rock babies with the best of them.
Karen had an amazing memory and knew everyone’s birthday, anniversary and even those of their pets.
After her Mother’s death, Karen became a resident at the Good Samaritan Center with her pet cat, Josie. She loved cats. Karen’s ability to make just about anything out of cardboard and duct tape was amazing, as the people from the Good Samaritan soon found out.
Karen was a quiet person, but made an impact on all the lives she touched.
Karen is survived by her sister, Connie Tollefson; brothers, Jon Stotts and Jeff (Melissa) Stotts; nieces, Kristie Tollefson and Alexis Koterwas; nephews, Quincy and Ian Stotts and Matthew Lyons all of Devils Lake; special pet, Josie and several cousins, aunts and uncles.
She was preceded in death by her father, Delno Weaver and mother, Mildred Stotts.
Funeral Services for Karen will be held on Sunday, April 19, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake with Reverend Timothy Stout officiating. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. Sunday until time of service.
Burial will be in the Dick Cemetery, rural Eliot, ND on Monday, April 20, 2015 at 1:00 p.m.
