Hilda C. Crough, of Devils Lake formerly of Starkweather, ND passed away early Sunday morning, April 19, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Care Center, Devils Lake in the care of her beloved family and Altru Hospice.
Funeral Services for Hilda will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake, ND with Fr. Charles Leute officiating.
Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until time of service. Hilda will be laid to rest at the Assumption of Mary Catholic Cemetery, rural Starkweather immediately after the funeral service on Saturday. Hilda’s family welcomes her dear friends and family to join them for fellowship at the Crofton Lodge (Odd Fellows) after the graveside service.
Hilda Caroline, the daughter of Jonathan Michael and Ernestine (Roberts) Zabel was born on March 21, 1914 at Clyde, ND where she grew up and was educated.
In 1929 she moved to Munich, ND with her parents. She was united in marriage to Cecil Crough on October 15, 1935 at Munich. Hilda and Cecil were in the grocery business for 29 years in Starkweather. In July of 1965 they moved to Devils Lake where Hilda worked as a bookkeeper for Goodman Electric, at the Register of Deeds office, Beneficial Finance Company and Mercy Hospital. She retired in 1983.
Hilda was very dedicated to the Catholic Church. After moving to Devils Lake she was an active member in St. Joseph Church, the Altar Society and Infant of Prague Circle. She also was an honorary life member of the VFW Auxiliary, KC’s and Elks Lodge.
She loved to cook, entertain, read and travel. She totally adored her grandkids and great grandkids, they meant the world to her.
Hilda is survived by her six grandsons H. John Crough, Gregory Hudson, Michael Crough, Terry Hudson, James Crough and David Johnson and one granddaughter Robin Maisey; numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Cecil who died in 1983; son Harold John Crough Sr.; grandson Patrick Crough; great grandson Kevin Allen Crough; brother Dan Zabel; sisters Marie Greening, Olga Gossett, Edna Grosclaude Ellis and Martha Fast.
Honorary Bearers are Edward Gossett, Dale Gossett, Marvin Berg and Mark Olson and Active Pallbearers will be Wade Hudson, Tim Devine, Randy Downs, Shaun Crough and Terry Hudson.
