John Gangl, 52, Moorhead, MN, passed away Monday, May 4, 2015 in Rochester, MN. John James Gangl was born June 13, 1962, to Ralph and Lila (Hunt) Gangl in Cando, ND. He was raised on the family farm near Egeland, ND and attended school in Egeland and Starkweather, ND. John was baptized and confirmed at Assumption Catholic Church in Starkweather, ND. John married Michelle McKinnon of Cando, ND on October 7, 1989 in Starkweather, ND. They have lived in Moorhead, MN since 1992. John and Michelle welcomed their first daughter, Kayla, in 1991, their second daughter, Brooke, in 1994, their son Ethan in 1997, and his beloved, “little buddy”, his grandson Aiden, in 2010. John worked as a self-employed flooring installer for over 25 years. He enjoyed spending special times with family and friends, hunting, fishing, woodworking and baking. He will especially be remembered for his amazing monster cookies and Special K bars. John is survived by his wife, Michelle, his daughters, Kayla and Brooke, his son, Ethan, his grandson, Aiden, all of Moorhead, MN, his father, Ralph Gangl, Starkweather, ND, his sisters, Vickie Gangl, Bottineau, ND, Tina Gangl (and special friend James McGuire) of Starkweather, ND, Sheila (Doug) Monson, Bottineau, ND, brothers Neil Kinney, Graham, TX and Jay Gangl, Hazen, ND. Other survivors include his father-in-law, Tom (Sherry) McKinnon, Fargo, ND, as well as numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lila Gangl, his sister, Christy Opstedal, and his maternal and paternal grandparents. A Celebration of John’s life will be held at Bluestem Center for the Arts, 801 50th Avenue SW, Moorhead, MN, at 7:00 pm on Saturday, May 9, 2015. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 11th at 10:30 am at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Devils Lake, ND.
