Doris Marie, daughter of Christopher and Lilly (Nickerson) Skjervheim was born on November 27, 1925 at the family home, rural Hampden. Doris was reared on the family farm 4 miles west of Hampden, attending a country school for her elementary years and then attending Devils Lake High School.
Doris was united in marriage to Marlin Pulst in 1943 and they made the Hampden area their home for several years. They bought a farm in the Tokio/Warwick area in 1947 and in 1955, the family moved to Kirkland, Washington and lived, worked and raised their family for the next 27 years. While in Washington, Doris was determined to get her high school diploma which she did at Lake Washington High School. She continued her education at a Washington Junior College and graduated with a degree in bookkeeping. She worked as a bookkeeper for an auto parts store which eventually expanded to 3 stores and Doris was the head bookkeeper for all the stores.
In 1982, Marlin retired from Boeing and they moved back to the Devils Lake area. Marlin died on September 3, 2002.
In retirement, as in their younger years, Doris and Marlin enjoyed dancing and wouldn’t hesitate to get in the car and even head to Grand Forks for a chance on the dance floor. Doris had a passion for gardening. She had large gardens which included flowers and vegetables. She was a part of the harvesting, the processing, freezing, canning and then producing an excellent meal for family and friends to enjoy.
Doris was a member of Christ Free Lutheran Church and enjoyed membership in the Eagles Auxiliary. She was very active in the VFW Auxiliary and held several positions with the organization.
We will miss our dear mother, grandmother, aunt and dear friend very much. Our memories of life with her will never be forgotten.
