John LeftBear Sr., 53 of Devils Lake and the Spirit Lake Nation, passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Society, Devils Lake.
A Wake for John will be held at the Tekakwitha Center, St. Michael on Wednesday beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a procession to St. Michael to leave on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. from the former Wal-Mart.
Funeral Services for John will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. also at the Tekakwitha Center with burial in St. Michael’s Cemetery.
Active Casket Bearers for John will be Johnny Leftbear, Jeffrey Lenoir Jr., Ivan (June)Lovejoy Jr., Derrick Bull, Brandon Johnson, Ralph Peoples, Austin Smith and Nathan Smith.

John Joseph Leftbear was born on May 14, 1962 to Catherine Howard and Moses Leftbear. John was a good person with a big heart. John made everyone laugh and smile. He enjoyed spending time with family and visiting his friends from all over the state, traveling was his life. John loved his children very much, he always made sure they came first. He enjoyed cookouts and playing horseshoes, loved to eat, playing cards and dice. He also enjoyed sports; the Vikings were his team. During his alone time he did a lot of traditional beading and watching movies.
In his younger days he enjoyed playing guitar, Pow Wows, and rodeo and still he traveled. He could never be in one place for very long. In 1982 he met a beautiful woman, Rose Ann Bull, who he had four beautiful children with.
John never complained about his life and said “No Regrets”. He will be missed by many.
John is survived by his children Holly (Jeffrey Jr.) Lenoir, Devils Lake, Delson Bull Leftbear, Bismarck, Johnny Leftbear, Devils Lake, and Meggie Leftbear, Fort Totten; two special grandchildren Brayden James and Kelvon James; mother Catherine Howard, Fort Totten; father Moses Leftbear, Tucson, AZ; brothers Ivan (Lynette) Lovejoy, Melvin (Lisa) Peoples, Ralph (Franny) Peoples, all of Fort Totten.
John was preceded in death by two sons John Leftbear Jr. and Joseph Leftbear.
