John P. Eberle, 73 of Devils Lake formerly of Baker, ND passed away on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Rochester, MN surrounded by his children, brother and Father John Evans II. Mass of the Resurrection for John will be held on Monday, June 15, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Very Reverend C.F. Wilhelm celebrating the Mass. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on Sunday, June 14th beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. The Rosary will be led by the Knights of Columbus and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus will provide an Honor Guard. John Peter, son of Phil and Irene (Sosalla) Eberle was born on September 1, 1941 in Maddock, ND. He was reared and educated in the Baker area. He attended elementary school in Baker and York, ND and graduated from Leeds Public School with the class of 1959. He was a member of the UND-ROTC Program and continued his education at Lake Region Junior College. John was united in marriage to Bernice Voeller on November 13, 1963 at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church in Leeds, ND. They made their life together with their children in Benson County. John started farming in 1965 raising small grains and was involved in cattle ranching. He also worked various jobs including working construction and also custom combining as Double E Custom Combining. He was a lobbyist for the American Ag Movement in Washington DC, a driver for the Ethanol Alcohol Plants in North Dakota and was one of the first fishing guides in the Lake Region. John believed in hard work, but also enjoyed several hobbies including fishing, hunting, woodworking and entertaining family and friends. He had a great sense of humor and he loved to tell jokes. John was a member of St. Vincent de Paul in Leeds and also St. Joseph Church in Devils Lake. He was a very active member of the 3rd and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus and had served in many capacities within the organization and most recently as Faithful Navigator. Gone from this earth, but memories of John forever cherished in our hearts. John is survived by his children Michelle (Billy) Harkness of Leeds, ND, Marcelle (Craig) Djoseland of Molalla, OR, Richard (Robyn) Eberle of Leeds, ND, Nicole (Cory) Bisbee of Big Lake, MN and Roberta (Scott) McGarvey also of Leeds; twelve grandchildren; nine great grandchildren with another on the way; brother Jerry Eberle (Deb Pierson) of Baker, ND; sisters-in-law Elizabeth (Lynn) Carlson of Rugby, ND, Barbara Voeller of Billings, MT and Irene Voeller also of Rugby; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Bernice of over 50 years; parents Phil and Irene and sister Nancy Hildebrand.
