Mary L. Lange

Mary Lorraine (Blessum) Lange, 87, of Devils Lake passed away Thursday, June 25, 2015 at Good Samaritan Society – Devils Lake. Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m., Monday, June 29, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rosary/Scripture Service at 5:00 p.m. with the Catholic Daughters leading the Rosary. Funeral Mass will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. A meal will be served immediately following the service at St. Joseph Parish Center. Burial will be at Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery, rural Webster following the meal. Mary was born November 18, 1927, in Niagara, ND, the daughter of Frances (Link) and Johnny Blessum. Growing up she lived in Niagara and Grand Forks, ND and graduated from high school in Foley, MN. After graduation, she was employed in St. Paul, MN working on an assembly line making walkie-talkies for the war effort. She married Donald Lange on July 10, 1946, and they farmed and raised a family as owner/operator of the Lange farm east of Webster. She and Donald retired in 1985 and continued to live on the farm until May of 2014 when they moved to Devils Lake. Through the years, Mary was involved in many community services. She belonged to Morris Township Homemakers Club for many years and was a member of the Catholic Daughters for more than 53 years, serving as Regent from 1995 through 1997. As a member of Pioneer Daughters, she volunteered at the museum in Fort Totten at different times during the summer months and she was involved in delivering Meals-on-Wheels for over 20 years. Mary spent many hours on her favorite pastimes…quilting, crocheting, embroidering and putting together challenging jigsaw puzzles. Mary is survived by her husband, Donald, five sons, Thomas (Gail) Lange, Alexandria, VA, Daniel (Jane) Lange, Gibson City, IL, Arthur (Lori) Lange, Clermont, FL, Andrew Lange, Webster, ND, and John (Jodi) Lange, Webster, ND and four daughters, Stephanie (Patrick) Scott, Bismarck, ND, Barbara (Ken) Christianson, McCall, ID, Mary (Ernest) Rubi, Buckeye, AZ, and Sister Elaine Lange, Harvey, ND. She is also survived by three brothers, Ray (Betty) Blessum, Oskaloosa, IA, Gordon (Bea) Blessum, Great Falls, MT, and Gregory (Katie) Szczech, Sauk Rapids, MN and sisters Helen (Lew) Storkamp, Paynesville, MN and Betty Jean (Pat) Hennessey, Burien, WA. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Mona (Blessum) Vinson, Gilbert, AZ, Richard Kuepers, Avon, MN, Henry and Marge Lange, Devils Lake, Gerald and Alice Lange, Madison, SD, Lindy Lange, Devils Lake, Joan Adkins, Colorado Springs, CO, Judy and Joe Kaluzny, Lakeland, FL, Anne McIntyre, Helena, MT, Anita Lange, Arvada, CO and many nieces and nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, Johnny and Frances, one brother Keith Blessum and one sister, Barbara Kuepers. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to your favorite charity in Mary’s name. Music will be provided by Kevin Regan and Audrey Myklebust. Lectors will be Mark Lange and Cameron Scott. Gift Bearers will be Mary’s Granddaughters, Tammy Coon, Nicole Christianson, Jordin Lange, Kate Lange, Skylar Lange and Honorary Gift Bearers will be Jessica Lange and Nadine Schimitt. Casket Bearers will be Mary’s Grandsons, Chris M. Lange, Cameron Scott, Neal Scott, Matt Schmitt, Jacob Lange, Chris J. Lange and Drew Lange. Honorary Bearers will be Jack Christianson and Dustin Lange. Special Tribute by Mary’s Great Grandchildren, Trevor, Coty, Damon, Matthew, Adam, Dakota, Addison, Eve, Xavier, Eva, Zachary, Jackson and Lydia.
