Lyle G. Clow, 89 of Devils Lake formerly of Park River, ND and Humboldt, MN died on Friday, July 24, 2015 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Fargo, ND.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake with Reverend Reuben Schnaidt officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
Graveside Services and Military Honors will be held at the Park River Cemetery on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m.
Lyle Gene, son of Walter and Inez (Babcock) Clow was born on May 18, 1926 in St. Vincent Township, rural Humboldt, MN. He was reared on the family farm attending an elementary country school and later graduating from Northwest Agriculture School in Crookston, MN.
Lyle joined the US Navy, on January 31, 1945 and served his country on a ship in the Pacific during World War II. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Seaman First Class on August 6, 1946. He then attended NDSU, Fargo where he met his future bride, Donna Johnson. They were united in marriage on June 19, 1947 at Chain Lakes Lutheran Church, rural Garske, ND.
They established their home on the family farm along the Red River and would live, work side by side and raise their family together for the next 26 years. In 1973 the family moved to Park River, ND and Lyle worked a variety of jobs and in 1978 began working as a Security Guard at the Cavalier Air Force Site at Concrete, ND until retiring on October 1, 1988. He enjoyed gardening, tending flowers and used those talents to help maintain the Park River Cemetery. In October of 2005, they moved to Devils Lake to be closer to family. Donna died on October 26, 2007.
Along with his love of the outdoors, Lyle was a Twins baseball fan and always enjoyed watching most any sport.
Lyle served on the Humboldt School Board and Elevator Board, Hill Township Board, the St. Vincent Fair Board and was a member of the American Legion Paul Farup Post #147, Park River.
We are so grateful for our many years as a family and will treasure our memories of Dad and Grandpa forever.
Survivors include his children Becky Clow, Devils Lake, Miles “Scott” (Rhandi) Clow, Grand Forks, Brad (Anne) Clow, Omaha, NE, Todd Clow, Twin Valley, MN and Darci (Mark) Gilbertson, Devils Lake; grandchildren Kelly, Brian (Stacey) and Kristen Clow and Erin (Steve) Barnes;Andy (Brittnee) and Molly Clow;Taylor and Wyatt Gilbertson; great grandchildren Aivlyn, Evan, Brayden and Jaelyn; brother-in-law Charon (Marcia) Johnson Mesa, AZ; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife of 60 years, Donna.
