Celinda Elizabeth "Cindy" Margrave Rude

Celinda “Cindy” Rude, nee Margrave, 48, of Devils Lake, formerly of Missoula, Montana and Boston, Massachusetts, passed away in her home on Tuesday, June 9, 2015. Celinda Elizabeth, daughter of Thomas and Patricia (Gaede) Margrave was born on March 11, 1967 in Tucson, Arizona. She spent her childhood and young adult life in Missoula and graduated from Hellgate High School, where her academic scholarship and creative writing skills distinguished her as a contributor to the school’s Troubador literary publication and recipient of National Merit Scholar designation. She continued her education at Harvard College in Cambridge, MA and later went on to earn her Associates in Arts from Lake Region State College in Devils Lake. In 1994, Celinda relocated to Devils Lake for love and married her longtime sweetheart, Cary Rude. Although they later divorced, they remained close friends always. In 2008, Celinda met her beloved, Randy Kartes, with whom she shared a close bond until her death. Through her young adult years working in office administration and later as a homemaker, Celinda excelled at the art of organization and honed these skills to create inspired living spaces marked by simplicity, order, and purpose. Beautiful Celinda had a gentle heart full of empathy. Her exuberance and playfulness were contagious, her smile a precious gift. Visiting with folks was one of Celinda’s favorite things to do. After quietly listening for a spell, she would share a brief, well-considered reply, revealing unique and insightful perspectives and powers of observation that sometimes helped us learn something new about ourselves and the world around us. Celinda delighted in being regaled with accounts of shared past adventures, reminiscences of times spent together, and funny things that each of us encounters in our day-to-day activities. She was a champion for her family and friends, always recognizing a special occasion in each of our lives with a card or phone call, nurturing relationships despite distances that separated us from one another. Her family and friends are blessed to have known and loved her. She brought a tremendous light into all of our lives. Celinda is survived by her father, Thomas Margrave; sister Cecilia Margrave; brothers David (Keiko) Margrave and Stephen Margrave; nephews Gerald and Jesse; special partner, Randy Kartes; former spouse, Cary Rude; and her faithful, loving cat, Cindy Princess Sugarplum. Celinda was preceded in death by her mother, Patricia, and her grandparents.
