Marjorie J. Krokum, 86 of Devils Lake, ND passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Center, Devils Lake. Marjorie Jean, middle child of five children, the daughter of Julius and Ethel (Lorentzen) Kirkeby was born on August 27, 1928 at the General Hospital, Devils Lake. She was reared and educated in Devils Lake and would live her entire life there. She worked as a waitress in many local Cafés and Restaurants. On one particular day, Marjorie waited on a handsome young man named Marvin Krokum and they fell in love. They were united in marriage on March 26, 1947 in Devils Lake. Marjorie made a loving home for her husband and children and continued to work as a waitress until age 74. She retired in 2002 from Hardee’s. Marjorie was “Grandma” to many of the kids of Lakewood. She always had home baked goodies for them and many friends and family were the recipients of her beautiful embroidered dish towels and pillow cases and the many other sewing projects Marjorie was doing at the time. Marjorie was a member of a local Homemaker’s Group and Peace Lutheran Church. Marjorie is survived by her children Michael (Janis) Krokum, Chillicothe, IL and Marlene (Dana) Salisbury, Devils Lake; grandchildren Josh (Verly) Schwartzenberger, Zacki Webb and Ben Krokum; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; son-in-law Buzz Schwartzenberger and several nieces, nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Marvin on September 1, 1980; daughter Margaret “Bunki” Schwartzenberger; grandson Cody Schwartz; siblings Eldora Hagevold, Galen Kirkeby, Arline Kern and Wayne Kirkeby. Funeral Services will be held at Peace Lutheran Church, Devils Lake on Thursday, August 6, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Lyle Belleque officiating. Burial will be in the Norway Lutheran Cemetery, rural Devils Lake. Visitation on Wednesday will be at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and visitation Thursday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.
