Ione E. Werner

Ione Ellen (Ivesdal) Werner, 77 of Hampden, ND passed away on Monday afternoon, August 10, 2015 at Eventide Heartland Care Assisted Living Center, Devils Lake. Ione was born February 22, 1938 in Devils Lake, the daughter of Sigurd and Olive (Thorson) Ivesdal, growing up on a farm near Hampden. She graduated from Hampden High School in 1956. Following graduation, she went to Mayville State College for two years receiving her teaching certificate. On August 31, 1958, she married Larry E. Werner in Edmore, North Dakota. Ione taught in Union, ND grades 1 – 8. Ione and Larry then bought the farm Larry’s grandfather homesteaded, where she lived until July of 2015. When diagnosed with cancer in May, Ione decided to leave the farm and move to Devils Lake. Through the years Ione was involved in many community services including her church. She loved to do yard work and different chores on the farm. She and Larry liked to travel and saw many different places. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed all types of puzzles but her greatest joy was her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ione is survived by her daughter Merrie Kay Kakela, Langdon, ND; sons Lee Werner and his wife Carla, Hampden, ND and Edwin Werner, Starkweather, ND; eight grandchildren Jesse Hermanson, Sara (Nathan) Erickstad, Jordan Hermanson (Heather Christianson), Kori (Ryan) Howatt, Carly Werner (Reid Kuchar), Rudy Kakela, William Werner, and Christian Werner; great grandchildren Felicity, Aubrey and Gage Erickstad; brother Sigurd “Tom” Ivesdal; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Larry on January 15, 2015; sister Carolyn Thorson and brother Sheldon Ivesdal. Funeral Services for Ione will be held on Friday, August 14, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Zoar Free Lutheran Church, Hampden with Rev. Craig Wentzel officiating. Burial will be in the Storlie Cemetery, rural Hampden. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Thursday, August 13th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service and time of remembrance at 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Friday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Casket bearers for Ione will be her grandchildren Jesse Hermanson, Sara Erickstad, Jordan Hermanson, Kori Howatt, Carly Werner, Rudy Kakela, William Werner and Christian Werner.
