Lorene was born on November 20, 1939, Benson County, rural Warwick, ND the daughter of Stanley E. “Gene” and Laura (Casper) Papachek. She grew up on the family farm, attended Free Peoples Country School and Warwick High School.
Lorene was united in marriage to Ronald “Ron” Waldo on March 13, 1956 at New Rockford, ND. Ron was working for Paul Reeves at the time and they made their home there. They would make the Warwick area their home for most of their life.
Lorene worked for a time at the Warwick School and the Devils Lake Post Office. She retired as the Postmaster of the Tokio Post Office after many years of service to the community.
Lorene’s “jobs” turned into a ministry for her. In visiting with the people and students she came in contact with each day, she would learn of a special need, a hobby, a food they loved and she would keep all of these things in her heart and remember to say a prayer for them, to make sure she canned enough produce to give it away to family and friends and to be there for them no matter what the situation might be. And she always felt she was the one so very blessed to have such wonderful students, friends and family in her life.
Lorene had a special way with her students and her grandchildren. They respected her, the rules she set and the fun-filled rewards that were part of any day spent with Lorene. She was so creative, artistic, loved to sew, cook and bake. She loved the outdoors, keeping up the yard, gardening, including the weeding, processing and canning the produce and giving to family and friends.
Lorene was an active member of the Warwick Lutheran Church and WELCA, served on the council, was a Sunday School teacher and helped in the maintenance and upkeep of the church inside and outside. She also served on the Warwick School Board. Lorene established a card ministry out of her home. She sent hundreds of cards; birthday, anniversary, get-well, congratulations and just words of encouragement to so many friends, family and brief acquaintances.
What a blessing Lorene has been to so many and what beautiful memories we shall cherish.
Lorene is survived by her husband of 59 years, Ron; sons Steven Waldo and his wife Lynn, Warwick, ND, Pastor Loren Waldo and his wife Carol, Lake Park, MN and Alan Waldo of New Rockford, ND; grandchildren Ryan Waldo, Adam (Betsy) Waldo, Laura (Ben) Walter, Krista Waldo, Jesse (Elizabeth) Waldo and Brandi Waldo; great grandchildren Livia Waldo, Petra and Isaiah Waldo; special family member Jackson Widme; brother Donnie Papachek; aunt Phyllis Papachek, Devils Lake; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Bonnie Papchek, Warwick, Darrell and Pam Waldo, Great Falls, MT and Kay Waldo, Devils Lake and several nieces and nephews.
