Christopher G. “Buddy” Alberts, “Wasicu Tawa hdi” (Brings Back American Horse), 78 of Fort Totten, ND began his journey to the Spirit World on Tuesday morning, August 25, 2015 at his home in the loving care of his family and Altru Hospice.
A Wake for Buddy will be held at the Cankdeska Cikana Community College, Fort Totten on Friday, August 28th beginning at 5:00 p.m. The procession to Fort Totten will leave at 4:00 p.m. from Buddy’s residence at rural Fort Totten.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2015 also at the college. Final review will begin at 11:00 a.m. with funeral services to follow immediately after review. Burial will be in the St. Thomas Episcopal Cemetery, rural Fort Totten. Military Honors will be accorded by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #7546.
Christopher George, was born on May 2, 1937 to Alvina (Jerome) and George Alberts in Fort Totten, ND. Buddy attended his early school years at the Calvary Square and continued his education at Fort Totten until he was 17.
He entered the Army in 1954, where after serving his 4 years of duty, returned home to Fort Totten. Buddy had two daughters, Theresa and Carrie TwoHearts, before having two more daughters and a son with Mary Angeline Dunn.
Buddy and Angeline were married in 1969. He then finished school at United Tribes Technical College in Bismarck. Buddy and Angeline were also among the first class of students to attend UTTC when it first opened.
In 1984, Buddy started working at the Four Winds Community School. He started as a janitor and later moved on to grounds keeper until his retirement in 2008. He took great pride in the many trees he planted and the care he took of all the grounds.
Buddy enjoyed rodeos and Pow Wows. He was dedicated to his traditional way of life. He also loved to teach the younger generation the many ways and beliefs of the traditional life. Buddy touched the hearts of many people throughout the United States and Canada. He worked very hard to keep the traditional ways and the Native language alive.
Buddy enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, great grandchildren and his many friends and family. He was a humble man, he was always sure to put the needs of others before himself. Buddy will truly be missed by many hearts, and all the people he touched and educated throughout his lifetime.
He is survived by his daughter Colleen Cook; son Tyrel Alberts; step children Calvin (Lolita) Dunn, Alfrieda (Bob) Dunn, Alberta (Ted) Dunn, Maynard Dunn, Terry (Anna) Dunn, Sr.; granddaughters Tara Alberts, Angela Eback, Nellie RedOwl; grandsons JayDean Alberts Sr., Shane Eback, Sr., Zachary Alberts, Chris Cook, Jarret Cook, Trevor Alberts; great granddaughters Kayonna, Talayna, Tori, Kayleetha, Adalyne; great grandsons JayDean Alberts Jr., Shane Eback Jr., Chris Cook Jr., Jayden Cook; sisters Winona Fox, Sally Cavanaugh, Marie Martin; brother Quentin Alberts; aunt Virginia (Adrian) Foote.
