Gail B. Landgren

Gail B. Landgren, 99 of Wilton and Devils Lake, ND died Friday, August 28, 2015 at Eventide Heartland Court, Devils Lake. Funeral Services on Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the Eventide Heartland Care Chapel with Reverend Dave Fix officiating. A grave side service will be held on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery on Century Avenue, Bismarck, ND with a time of fellowship with the family to follow at the Edgewood Vista on Colorado Lane, Bismarck, ND. Gail Bickert was born March 6, 1916 at her childhood home in Washburn, ND to William J. and Belle (McCafferty) Bickert. She was the youngest of three children. She grew up in Washburn on the family farm (Painted Woods Ranch) southeast of Washburn and west of Wilton. She graduated from Washburn Public School in 1934. She attended Jamestown College and the University of North Dakota where she was a member of Alpha Phi sorority. She worked at McLean County Extension before marrying Marvin T. Landgren on February 14, 1941 in Pasadena, CA. They farmed near Underwood before moving to Painted Woods Ranch. Gail was active in several community and state activities including the McLean County Historical Society, the state and national centennial and bicentennial celebrations, Washburn High School class reunions, North Dakota Stockman’s Association (Cowbelles) and the North Dakota Lung Association Board of Directors. She enjoyed farm life by gardening, canning, cooking and baking. Recording the family histories and studying genealogy while being a devoted farmwife is now appreciated by her family. Gail lived on the ranch until 2010 when she moved to Heartland Court in Devils Lake and has lived there for the past five years. Gail is survived by her three children: Robert Landgren, Wilton, ND and special friend Pat Brown, Bismarck, ND; Mary Alice Simonson, Humble, TX; and Gail (Wilgoth) Carlson, Sheyenne, ND; grandchildren, Kristen (Ryan) Nelson, Eric Simonson, Sven D. (Andrea) Carlson, and John (Dorothy) Carlson; step-grandchildren, Tim (Ann) Thomas and Bryan (Jeanne) Thomas; great grandchildren, McAllister “Mac” and Logan Nelson; Jennie and Rachel Carlson; step great grandchildren Sandra, Shelley and Paige Thomas and Hailee and Noah Thomas; son-in-law Charles J. Simonson; daughter-in-law, Kathy Lipp Landgren; several nieces, nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents Will and Belle Bickert; her husband of 63 years Marvin; brother, Robert G. (Henrietta) Bickert; sister Mary Elizabeth “Betty” (Earl) Jennings; great grandson ‘lil Sven D.
