James Roger, son of Freedolf and Esther (Thorson) Boline was born on March 6, 1928 at Henning, MN. He grew up and educated in Henning. He worked in the family service station and also as a farm laborer for several area farmers for several years.
Jim married Ina Anderson in 1953 and they made their home in Henning. Jim entered the United States Army and served his country during the Korean War. While stationed in Germany, he served with the 545th Signal Company. Jim was honorably discharged on August 7, 1956 with the rank of Specialist 3.
The family moved to Fargo and Jim worked for over 30 years as a service technician for Friden Business Machines. The company changed ownership several times but Jim continued as a dedicated employee. In the years with Friden, several moves were involved and also working at several Air Bases. But Jim was never idle, and evenings and weekends you would find him doing what he loved the most, helping area farmers in the field or out hunting, fishing and enjoying nature.
In 1980, Jim retired as a service technician, but began a second career with the Federal Parks and Recreation Service. He worked in Wausau, Wisconsin, White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico, Game Preserve at Sully’s Hill to name a few. Jim never considered this as work. He truly loved the outdoors and when he did retire, he decided to remain in Devils Lake to enjoy the outdoor activities Devils Lake offered.
No matter where Jim lived, he always had a big garden and was involved in every process; weeding, harvesting, canning and cooking the produce. He loved to hunt and fish and his last fishing outing was on Father’s Day of this year and it was a great day of fishing on Geezer 1.
As much as Jim loved the outdoors, he worked at instilling that same love in his children and grandchildren. Hunting, camping, fishing with family were Jim’s most treasured moments.
Jim is survived by his sons Tim (Connie Asleson) Boline, Devils Lake, Mark Boline, Fargo, Daniel Boline Spirit Lake, Idaho and John Boline also of Fargo and daughter Mary (Kevin) Gleitz of Monticello, MN; grandchildren Ryan (Alissa) Boline, Donald (Aradhana) Davis, Sonny Blue Zuercher, Crystal Blue Zuercher, Jacob (Erica) Gleitz and Stacia (Aaron) Gleitz; great grandchildren Calin, Braxton, Koen, Austin, Caitlyn, Sophie, Walker, Makayla, Kiara, Kashen, Kinsley, Skylar and Bella.
