Raymond H. Porter entered eternal life on September 15, 2015, at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND.
Ray was the youngest of five children, born to Clifton and Una Porter on January 21, 1941, in Langdon, ND. After graduating from Hannah High School, Hannah, ND, in 1959 Ray attended Gale Institute in Minneapolis, MN. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1960, being stationed at Louisiana, Goose Bay, Labrador, Utah and Okinawa, Japan. Upon retiring from the military, Ray and his family moved back to Devils Lake where he worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs at Fort Totten until his retirement in 1992. Ray continued to serve the Spirit Lake Tribe as an Accounting Technician and Contract Specialist for another 17 years.
Ray enjoyed all that his native North Dakota had to offer. He shared his love of hunting and fishing with family and friends alike. Ray was so very fond of his hometown and was known to be generous with his time and sharing of his home grown fruits. Ray was a long time regular at many local establishments, with the VFW and White House Cafe becoming his regular stops in the latter years.
Ray is survived by children; Michelle (Mark) Gardiner, Schertz, TX, Tracey (Jeff) Stenseth, Fargo, ND, grandchildren; Benjamin Hammond, Jaime Gardiner, Caise Gardiner, Dustin Gardiner and Parker Stenseth, sister; Mildred (Fred) Lembke, Pembina, ND and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; children, Teresa Porter and Troy Porter; brothers, Robert Porter, William "Bill" Porter and Jim Porter; sister-in-law, Fern Porter; and his beloved cat, Pasqualey.
Funeral Services for Ray will be held on Sunday, September 20, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Devils Lake with Reverend Lori Broschat officiating. Military Honors will be accorded by the Neathery-Simensen Post #756 and the North Dakota Military Funeral Honors Team. Graveside Services will be held Sunday, September 20th at 5:30 p.m. at the Cavalier Cemetery, Cavalier, ND.
Visitation will be held on Saturday at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake from 12:00 noon until 2:30 p.m.
