Joseph “Joe” Ahad, 72 passed away on Friday, December 11, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Center, Devils Lake.
Joseph was born on November 22, 1943 in Beirut, Lebanon where he was reared and educated. He became a merchant shipman and at the age of 27, that job brought him to America. He would make his way across America, from coast to coast and live through many adventures. In this life of 72 years, Joe would marry and also become a father and grandfather. A traumatic brain injury, a number of years ago would dramatically change the course of Joe’s life.
Approximately 3 ½ years ago, Joe would find himself on a train for Boston after being homeless in California for several years. On this trip to hopefully a better life, he would become extremely ill and had to leave the train in Lakota, ND to be treated for his illness before continuing on his journey.
Joe’s condition never improved enough for him to continue that journey to Boston alone and many, many attempts to find family were unsuccessful so Joe made his home here, with the kind and caring people of the Good Samaritan Center in Devils Lake.
Joe enjoyed sitting at the West Nurses Station, drinking his Coke, making his presence known to the staff and hoping the weather was nice enough that staff could sit out in the courtyard with him. As with all of us, Joe had good days and bad days, and he would want everyone to know that his last days in their presence was a blessing to him.
