Allen James Brown, “Wambdi Duta Hoksina” (Red Eagle Boy) 41 of rural St. Michael, ND passed away on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at his home with his mother at his side.
Visitation for Allen will be held on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at his home, rural St. Michael beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Time of Remembrance at 7:00 p.m. The procession to rural St. Michael will leave at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday (today) from the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake.
Visitation on Wednesday will be at St. Michael’s Catholic Church beginning at 8:00 a.m. until time of service. Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Wednesday, December 30th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church with Father Paul Schuster celebrating the Mass. Allen will be laid to rest in St. Michael's Cemetery in the spring.
Allen was born on June 21, 1974 in Devils Lake, ND the son of Corrine Brown. He was raised in the Tokio and St. Michael areas. Allen attended the School for the Blind in Grand Forks, ND at the age of 8 years until he was 18 years of age. On trips back and forth from Grand Forks, Allen loved to tease and pick on his aunt Yvonne Thompson.
Allen enjoyed being with his family members. In later years, Allen’s health started to fade, but he always had a big smile.
Allen’s Indian Name was given to him when he was 2 years old by Wasu Duta (Claude Red Hail). Wasu Duta made many trips from South Dakota to pray and be with Allen until Wasu Duta’s passing.
Allen is survived by his loving family. His mother Corrine Brown, St. Michael; sisters Amy Brown (Tony) and Holly Brown all of Tokio, ND, Constance Brown, Fargo, ND and Courtney Brown Reducindo (Gelberto) of Anaheim, CA; nieces and nephews Jayryl Guy, Jayla Guy, Kylen Guy, Kylana Guy, Xavier Brown, Nakomis Lawrence, Aubree Lawrence and Kyler Lawrence; great grandmother Pauline Greywater; great aunt Violet Smith; aunts Bernadette Brown (Craig), Yvonne Thompson all of Tokio, Myra Pearson, St. Michael, Cheryl Good Iron, Betty Smith all of Fort Totten, Dianne Jackson, St. Michael, Delphine Cavanaugh, Fort Totten, Carmen Littlewind, Germaine DeMarce, Yvonne DuBois, LaVina Littlewind all of Crow Hill, ND and Ella Jane LaFrombois, St. Michael; uncles Russell Smith (Debbie), Tokio, Duane Jackson Sr. (Adeline), St. Michael, Alfred Alex Jr. (Sharon) Minneapolis, MN, Jonathon Daniels (Myra) Poplar, MT and A.J. Littlewind, Crow Hill; many beloved cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Sylvia Smith and Alfred Alex Sr.; great grandparents Henry Brown and Winifred and Sam Cloud; uncles Clifford Brown, Freeman Brown, Allan Brown, Curtis Greene and Elmer White Jr.; god parents Carol Jackson and Leon Jackson.
