Theri M. Olson-Swigart

Theri Michelle Olson-Swigart, 57, of St. Michael, ND passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2016, at her home. Theri was born July 4, 1958, in New Rockford, ND, the daughter of Vernon Sr. and Shirley (Westerlund) Olson. Theri grew up on a farm in Sheyenne, ND, one of nine kids. She helped raise the farm animals and liked to ride horses. She graduated from Sheyenne High School and attended Lake Region State College. On September 9, 1978 Theri married Craig Swigart. They lived in Devils Lake before eventually moving to St. Michael, ND. They had three children, Stacey in 1979, Joshua in 1980 and Trevor in 1987. Theri held various positions throughout the years, almost all centered on helping others or customer service. Due to her hard working nature she worked her way up to manager more than a few times. Theri loved taking care of her children and nieces and nephews and at one point opened a daycare so they would have a fun place to be during the day. Theri enjoyed crafts and passed the joy of creativity to her children. Theri had a great love of books and read often. She liked animals, especially cats. She was strong, determined and was someone people could rely on. If you needed help or someone to listen she would be there. Theri was laid back, loving and sweet. She enjoyed gardening, watching birds, doing crossword puzzles and relaxing with family and friends. Theri loved to laugh and did so often and loudly, an “Olson trait.” Her eyes twinkled when she told stories, especially when recalling moments spent with her kids. Theri loved holidays and passed on many traditions to her children. Her most cherished moments were spent with family. She was the love of Craig’s life and the most amazing mother and wife. She will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her. Theri is survived by her husband Craig of St. Michael, ND, her daughter Stacey of Fargo, ND, her sons Joshua of Lake Tahoe, CA and Trevor of St. Michael, ND; her brothers and sisters Rhonda (Eddie) Greene of St. Michael, ND, Vernon Olson Jr. of Devils Lake, ND, Randy Olson of Sheyenne, ND, Timothy Olson of Devils Lake, ND, Dona Krahler of Devils Lake, ND, Laura (Mathew) Hermanson of Horace, ND, Darwin (Kathy) Olson of Fargo, ND, and David Olson of Fargo ND; mother and father in-law Jim and Mary Swigart of St. Michael, ND, brother in-law Kenneth (Sheri) Swigart of Jacksonville, FL and sister-in-law Laurie (Roger) Lourens of St. Michael, ND; many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind many other loving relatives and friends. Theri was preceded in death by her parents Vernon Sr. and Shirley Olson. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 3 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Gilbertson Funeral Home in Devils Lake, ND and will continue Thursday at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Funeral services for Theri will be held on Thursday, February 4, at 11 a.m. at the Grandfield Lutheran Church in rural Sheyenne with Reverend Natasha Woitzel-Kolles officiating.
