Duane A. Bye, 90 of Devils Lake, ND passed away on Monday morning, February 8, 2016 at Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake, ND. Funeral Services for Duane will be held on Friday, February 12, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Devils Lake with Reverend Lori Broschat officiating. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Thursday, February 11th from 3:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. and will continue at the Methodist Church on Friday one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Neathery-Simensen Post #756, Devils Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars and the North Dakota Military Funeral Honors Team. Duane, son of C.A. and Safira (Thompson) Bye was born on June 15, 1925 on the farm at rural Crary, ND. He grew up in Crary area and attended Crary Public School. Duane enlisted in the United States Army on March 29, 1946 at Fort Snelling, MN and served stateside as a Medical Aidman. He was honorably discharged on September 28, 1947 at Fort Belvoir, VA with the rank of Tech Sergeant 5th Grade. Duane purchased a small farm in Minnesota and eventually returned to Crary and farmed the family farm. Duane grew the operation to include livestock and eventually a large cattle feeding operation from 1968 to 1974. Along with the farming, Duane also did Custom Harvesting from Texas to North Dakota. After retiring from the cattle business, he began his own grain buying business. After retiring from agricultural endeavors, Duane was an award winning salesman for Global Health Trax a company whose goal was to assist individuals towards improved health and wellness through nutritional products and home therapy devices. Duane was united in marriage to Marjorie Haugen on February 10, 1967 in St. Paul, MN. They established their home in Devils Lake where they lived and worked through the years. Duane was always available to lend a helping hand, a ride, or do whatever was needed to help someone out. They enjoyed watching horse racing in Canada and throughout the United States as Marge had special interest in Thoroughbred Race horses. Duane was a former member of the American Legion and the Elks Lodge and was a strong supporter of the Devils Lake Community. Duane’s loving family include his wife Marjorie; sisters Sylvia Conlon, Devils Lake and Gladys Brand, Minot, ND; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Glen and Shirley Haugen, Valley City, ND, Janice Bottenhaggen, Billings, MT, Donald and DeEtt Haugen, York, ND, Jeanette Olson and Marjorie’s niece Lesli, Devils Lake and Karen Pretzer, Minot; many nieces, nephews and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Howard Bye; sisters Margaret Partridge, Gen Estenson and Evelyn Converse. Casket Bearers for Duane will be Rick Brand, Dennis Magsam, Rick Bye, Leo Sayler, Art Roehr and Kraig Haugen. Music will be provided by Donovan Foughty and Dennis Magsam, vocalists and Lynda Pearson, pianist.
