Agnes Dosch, the daughter of Marcus and Magdalena (Reiter) Dosch, was born on September 26, 1938, in Karlsruhe, ND. She passed away with her loving family by her side on February 24, 2016.
She was educated at Sts. Peter and Paul Parochial School in Karlsruhe. In 1959, Agnes met the love of her life dancing at the 52 Club outside of Minot, North Dakota. They dated for a time and were married on August 13, 1960, in Karlsruhe, ND, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, by Fr. Zimmerman (the same priest that baptized Agnes).
Agnes and Edward began their life together in Minot, ND. They moved to Kramer, ND, Souris, ND, and to Grand Forks, ND., with Linda and Lance as Edward finished his Masters Degree. In the fall of 1966, they moved with their three children to Devils Lake where they would call home.
Agnes was a home child care provider for many years. After closing her childcare business she began dealing blackjack for the Eagles and Elks, serving as Assistant Manager of the Eagles for a time before beginning a 15 year career as the Gaming Manager for Lake Region Heritage Center, retiring in 1994. For many years after retirement she continued to show her love of kids by helping Louise and Cindy as a temporary back up for their home childcare businesses. She was “Grandma Aggy” to countless children throughout the years.
Agnes was known for being a kind, loving, sincere person that didn’t place judgement on anyone. She always had an ear to listen with a huge hug. If any of the kids or grandkids would give a hug without two arms she would ask “if your arms didn’t work”! She wanted a real hug! Her smile and laughter were contagious which made spending time with her such fun. She thoroughly enjoyed time spent with family and friends. She especially enjoyed baking with her grandchildren, passing on her talent to bake and cook. She finally gave up her “secret recipe” for her chocolate chip cookies and was known throughout our family as the best cream noodle maker (the recipe she learned from her mom).
Agnes and Ed enjoyed playing cards, games, walking, baking and most of all dancing. They were the smoothest dancers on the dance floor and danced often twice a week at the American Legion Club in New Port Richey Agnes and Ed enjoyed their trips to and from Florida this past 20 years, taking their time visiting with friends and family along the way. Agnes was a master bridge player. She attained the level of Life Master of the American Contract Bridge League in 1993. Agnes and Edward enjoyed playing bridge together, were part of the Thursday bridge group and considered them family. Besides family Agnes and Ed have countless friends. Many of you here to celebrate her life. In June, 2015, Agnes was so happy to have her family in Devils Lake to celebrate their 55th wedding anniversary. Out of the 64 (at the time) immediate family members, 61 were able to attend! We can’t thank you enough for your outpouring of love and support.
She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Devils Lake as well as Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in New Port Richey, FL. She served on the St. Joseph’s School Board, was a member of St. Gerard Circle, Eagles Auxiliary and was the Social Director of Circle 5 of Colony Cove, New Port Richey, FL, for many years.
We would like to thank everyone for the calls, food, flowers and the wonderful Colony Cove Community for opening their homes for family. An extra special thank you to all the wonderful Doctors, nurses and HPH hospice for the wonderful care mom received. As Edward told the oncologist: “We like the messenger, we just don’t like the message”. We thank God for the wonderful example our mom taught us. She had a wonderful 77 years on this earth and 57 of them spent with the love of her life. She showed us how to face this terminal illness with courage, strength, grace and dignity. She was prepared and not afraid to meet our Lord. Her last gift to us was trying her best to make this as easy on us as she could.
