Joel Oliver Storsteen, DeGroat Township farmer died on died Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at Devils Lake. He was born February 13, 1927 at Duncombe, Iowa.
Joel was an Army Veteran who served April of 1946 until his honorable discharge in the fall of 1947. He began farming in 1949 on the farm his family homesteaded in DeGroat Township, rural Churchs Ferry. He married Donna Mae Moen on October 17, 1951 at Chain Lake Lutheran Church.
He was a member of Chain Lake Lutheran Church until it closed and then became a member of Trinity-Bergen Lutheran Church, Starkweather.
He was preceded in death by his parents Reverend Rasmus C. and Ida (Hoystad) Storsteen; brothers Howard, Paul (Evelyn), Reuben, Carl, Bernard and Richard (Charlotte); sister Dorcas (Glenn) Wells; father-in-law and mother-in-law Albert and Evelyn Moen; sisters-in-law Genese Moen Sorlie and Doreen (Rollie) Moen Farbo.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years Donna Mae (Moen) Storsteen; daughters Karen and her husband James Hausmann, Churchs Ferry, ND and Sandra and her husband Brad Bjerke, Charleston, South Carolina; grandchildren Thomas (Amanda) Hausmann, Laura Hausmann, Steven Hausmann, Elsie Bjerke and Ethan Bjerke; great grandsons Ezra, Jake and Reece Hausmann; brothers Rolf (Shirley), Daniel (Mary) and Harold (Jeanie); sisters-in-law Beverly Storsteen and Lois (Orville) Hesch; brother-in-law Harold (Ann) Sorlie; several nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity-Bergen Lutheran Church, Starkweather, ND with Reverend Craig Wentzel officiating. Military Honors will be accorded by the Neathery-Simensen Post #756, Devils Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars and the North Dakota Military Funeral Honors Team.
Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Friday, March 11th from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Visitation on Saturday will be at the church one hour prior to the Memorial Service.
Memorials may be directed to the Chain Lake Cemetery or charity of the donor’s choice.
