Jennie (Lindseth) Schmiess, 96 of Grand Forks formerly of Starkweather, ND passed away on Easter Sunday, March 27, 2016 at the Maple View Memory Care in Grand Forks, ND. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, April 1, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Christ Free Lutheran Church, Devils Lake with Reverend Gary Fulsebakke officiating. Burial will be in the Alsen Cemetery, rural Alsen, ND. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Thursday, March 31, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service and Time of Remembrance at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Jennie Lindseth was born on March 17, 1920, to Fred and Anna Marie (Hoiland) Lindseth. She attended elementary school in Weaver, ND and high school at Alsen. Jennie was united in marriage to Dave Schmiess on November 6, 1938 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Alsen. She farmed with her husband, north of Alsen until 1945 when they purchased a farm in Royal Township west of Hampden. There they farmed and raised cattle until retiring in 1976. In the fall of 1983, they moved to Devils Lake where they made their home for several years. David died on January 23, 2000. In 2008, Jennie moved to Grand Forks. She was a member of Christ Free Lutheran Church in Devils Lake where she held the office of treasurer for many years. She was also very active in WMF. Jennie is survived by her daughters Marge (Bob) Rohn of Lake Havasu City, AZ and Pat (Bill) Janzen of Grand Forks; daughter-in-law Mary Schmiess of Fargo; twelve grandchildren; twenty-seven great grandchildren; four step great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dave; son Dennis Schmiess; grandchildren Kori Markovich and Todd Schmiess; sisters Agnes Lorenz and Thelma Martineau and brother Fredrick Lindseth. Casket Bearers for Jennie will be her grandsons David Rohn, Barry Schmiess, Dennis Rohn, Darrin Rohn and Robert Rohn. Honorary Bearers will be Jennie's granddaughters Roxanne Chintala, Krista Janzen, Becki Woehl, Shareen Macias, Pattie Englert, Nikole Kostuch and Kelly Holland. Music will be provided by Darrin Rohn, Patti Englert and Sid Bingaman.
