Ronald James “Ron” Hunt, Sr., 62, of rural St. Michael, ND, began his spiritual journey on Tuesday morning, April 19, 2016, at his home with beloved family and friends at his side and in the care of Altru Hospice. Funeral services for Ron will be on Monday, April 25, at 3 p.m. at the Dakota Baptist Church, Fort Totten, ND with Pastor Paul Young officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Monday beginning at 11 a.m. until time of service. Active pallbearers will be Jerry Robertson, Tom Robertson, Jr., Lee English, Sr., Curtis Black, Frank Lovejoy, Carl Walking Eagle, Robert Old Rock and all of Ron’s many friends and former fellow co-workers. Any drum groups are invited to come and share their song and music in memory of Ron. Ron was born on August 8, 1953 at Minneapolis, MN, son of Lily M. (Lohnes) Hunt and Herbert J. Hunt, Sr. As a child, Ron and his family relocated to Minneapolis where he grew up and attended elementary schools there. When the family returned to Spirit Lake in 1969, Ron attended Central High School in Devils Lake and later continued his high school education at Stephen, SD where he graduated. Ron moved to California (San Jose) to live with brothers, Donnie and Tony Hunt where he attended college at San Jose City College before returning home in 1984. Ron met and was united in marriage to Johanna Robertson on March 15, 1985. They had four children, Crystal, Ronald Jr. (Isaiah) and Rusty (Coogie) and Samantha Hunt. They moved to Minneapolis and made their home there for about three years where their youngest child, Samantha Jo Hunt, was born. They then moved back to Spirit Lake where they continued to live, work and raise their family until the time of Ron’s passing. While employed, Ron worked with the HIP Program for the Spirit Lake Tribe, then worked in law enforcement at the Fort Totten Police Department despatching for a number of years. He was then employed by the Spirit Lake Housing Corporation for many years holding a number of positions within the Housing Office. Ron loved working and became close friends with his fellow employees. For recreation, Ron enjoyed playing bar bingo with friends and family, pool, bowling (he was an excellent bowler) and was also introduced to the game of golf by his brother in-law, Lee English. From then on, he loved golf. He waited for the spring and summer seasons where he looked forward to going to New Rockford with his friends to play golf as often as he could. Ron would sit on his computer surfing the internet, checking out Facebook to keep up with the latest from his friend and listen to his heavy metal music which he loved. His favorites where Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains. Due to health problems, Ron retired from work to tend to his health issues. He spent his time at home with his grandchildren that he loved very much and was so proud of. Especially baby Patrick, who was always by Grampa and his “Baby” Trinity. Ron leaves behind his wife of 31 years, Johanna; sons, Ronald (Isaiah) Hunt, Jr., Rustin J. (Coogie) Hunt; daughters, (Denise), Crystal (Chad) Robertson, Samantha (Anthony) Hunt; brothers, Tony Hunt, Ft Totten, Kenneth Hunt, Minneapolis; sisters, Marsha (Lee) English, Minneapolis, Cheryl Hunt, Minneapolis, Myra Hunt, Ft Totten; mother in-law, Elaine Robertson and her children; one sister in-law; seven brothers in-law; special daughter in-law, Melissa (Missy) Hunt-DesJarlias; grandchildren, Hayden, Jastin, Dwight, Jasiah, Jayah, Jasmine, Isaac, D’Angelo, Trinity, Lily, Rosie, Izlee, Rusty, D’Marco, Brandy, Brandon, Chad Jr., Maddie and patrick; three great-grandchildren, Angelita Rose Hunt, Adam James Hunt and Aleeha Jolee Robertson. Ron was proceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Lily Hunt; brother, Donald J.?Hunt; nephews, Dwight (Wicha) Hunt, Baby Ken Hunt Jr.; maternal grandparents, Florence and Aaron Lohnes; paternal grandparents, Micheal and Lucy Hunt; infant grandchildren, Baby Jamison, Baby Beatrice Hunt; and many aunts and uncles.
