Marilyn Joy (Kiefer) Hatlestad, 80, of Warwick, ND passed away on May 6, 2016 at Heartland Care in Devils Lake, ND.
Marilyn was born on December 31, 1935 in Warwick, ND the daughter of Donovan and Vivian (Lind) Kiefer. She graduated from Warwick Public School in 1953. Marilyn attended college at Minot State Teaching College. She taught for one year in a one-room country school in Hillsdale Township near Warwick, ND.
Marilyn married James Hatlestad on September 30, 1956 after knowing each other since they were in first grade. They had three daughters, Kim Morneau, Bothell, WA, Jane (Terry) Smith, Tokio, ND and Heidi (Dave) Favour, Seattle, WA.
Marilyn was a long-time member of Warwick Lutheran Church and involved in Ladies Aid (WELCA). She was also involved in the ND Rural Letter Carriers Auxiliary which gave her and Jim the opportunity to travel. Marilyn and Jim enjoyed gardening, traveling, hosting family and friends in their home, and making quilts for each of their grandchildren. After Jim’s passing, Marilyn resided at Eventide Heartland in Devils Lake where she received excellent care and companionship from the staff and residents.
Marilyn is survived by her siblings, Kevin (Kathie) Kiefer, Julie (Jay) Kiefer-Bell, Tamara (Gene) Stevens; her three daughters; grandchildren; Jaime (Michael) Greene , Lucus (Melissa) Smith, Sarah (Jacob) Warren , Elizabeth (Brady) Fritel, Justin (Brittany) Morneau , Laura (Justin) Kolling, Anna and Sadie Favour, Olivia and Tyrus Smith and great-grandchildren; Kayden and Kodi Greene, Julian and Cason Smith, Isabel and Eli Fritel, Milo Warren, and Kelly Morneau.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Jim, her sisters Donna O’Meara, Linda Spence, and Pamela Kiefer, and her great-grandson Boyd Warren.
Funeral Services for Marilyn will be held on Friday, May 13, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the Warwick Lutheran Church, Warwick, ND with Reverend John Monson officiating. Marilyn will be laid to rest beside her husband, Jim in the Warwick Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Thursday, May 12th from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a time of prayer and remembrance at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.
