MARY ELIZABETH (LONGIE) GOODELL

Mary Elizabeth Longie-Goodell, of Wirtz, Virginia, formerly of St. Michael, ND passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2016. Funeral services for Mary Beth will be held on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake, ND with Father Paul Schuster officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until time of service. Mary Elizabeth, daughter of Clarence Joseph and Catherine Anne (Rolland) Longie was born on August 25, 1971 in San Diego, California where she lived until age 3 while her father served in the United States Navy. The family returned to North Dakota and Mary Beth attended Prairie View Elementary School and graduated from Devils Lake High in 1989. She graduated in 1993 from UND with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science and History. She was accepted into the UND School of Law and graduated with a law degree in 1997. After her many years of hard work, study, and dedication, she passed the bar exam in 1998. She practiced law in North Dakota and Minnesota for several years. Mary Beth was united in marriage to Michael LaDuke Goodell on November 12, 1993. They established their home in Grand Forks. They later moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado and Mary Beth continued practicing law along with being a devoted wife and mother. Recently the family made their home in Wirtz, Virginia. Mary Beth was the queen of DIY projects around her home and had recently become a gardening enthusiast. When she couldn’t be outside she enjoyed quilting. Mary Beth brought joy to all who knew her; her love for life and family was evident in her beautiful smile and twinkling eyes. Our hearts break, but those precious moments shared on this earth with our beloved Mary Beth will never fade from our memories. Mary Beth is survived by her husband, Michael; daughters Shayla Marie (Hugh Beck) Longie, Nashville, TN, Megan Elizabeth Goodell, Denver, CO and son Jacob LaDuke Goodell, Wirtz, VA; her mother Catherine Longie, St. Michael, ND; brother Robert Cody Longie, Devils Lake and sister Helen Marie (Rodney) Ferguson, Rugby, ND; nieces and nephews Zachary (Samantha), Paige, Tarah, Tawny (Tyrel), Trista (Lucas) Tashal, great nieces and great nephews Natalie, Archer, Evelyn, Riley, Wynn, and Aurore; brother-in-law David Trottier; many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father Clarence, her grandparents, and many other beloved family members.
