Kay C. (Enstad) Waldo, passed away, Friday, July 1, 2016 in Mandan at the Sanford Health Continuing Care Center, at age 77, after an illness.
Kay Crystal, was born on June 16, 1939 to James Theodore “Jim” and Pearl “Crystal” (Tangen) Enstad at their home in Pekin, ND. She graduated from Pekin High School in 1957.
She was united in marriage to Marvin Waldo on April 1, 1958 at her parents’ home. They were the proud parents of 6 children. They lived and worked the family dairy, Angus beef and grain farm by Hamar until 1982 when they moved to Pekin. They were also the owners and operators of Marvin’s Trucking, later to be named KC Trucking.
Kay, along with being a devoted wife and mother she was never idle. She was an active member of the Sigdal Lutheran Church, as a Sunday School Superintendent, member of the Ladies Aid, an Eddy County 4-H Leader and a member of the Garden Club and VFW Auxiliary. She was the Editor of the McVille Messenger, served as the Pekin City Assessor and was a nursing assistant at McVille Nursing Home until Marvin’s death in 1985. In 1986, Kay moved to Valley City and attended Valley City State University and earned a degree in Business Management and minors in Accounting and Human Resource in 1990. She worked for a short time at Tharadson Enterprise. In 1991, Kay moved to Fergus Falls, MN where she was the Director of the Senior Citizen Center, moved to Bismarck to become the Director of the Senior Citizen Center there and then to Devils Lake where she was the Director of REM until retiring in 2002. She continued to call Devils Lake home.
She treasured any time she could spend with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved to attend as many of their activities as possible. Kay enjoyed watching pro and college basketball and baseball. Kay was a lifelong Twins fan.
Kay is survived by her children Randal Waldo, Sheyenne, ND, Ann Marie (Dave Tice Sr.) Waldo, Minnewaukan, ND, Marva Kay (Wayne) Leben, Jamestown, ND, Todd (Sue Swenson) Waldo Grand Forks, and Ronda Sue (Randy) Schell, Devils Lake and foster parent of several children; grandchildren James (Mary) and Dustin Waldo, Derek and Danielle Millner, Jarid and Izik Larson, Tyler, Kent and Cameron Leben, Pauline (Korey) Wetels, Brian (Haley), Sara and Jacob Waldo, Morgan Pedeliski and Maxwell Schell; fourteen great grandchildren and one soon to be born; brothers Jerald (Pat) Enstad and Roland (Donna) Enstad; brothers-in-laws and sister-in-law Ron Waldo, Warwick, ND, Darrell and Pam Waldo, Great Falls, MT; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; twin siblings Paul and Pauline Enstad;, spouse, Marvin; son Daniel James; grandson Nicholas; sisters-in-laws Mavis Enstad, Lorene Waldo and Julie Harding; brother-in-law Wendell Waldo.
Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Thursday, July 7th from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service and Time of Remembrance at 7:00 p.m. led by Marilee Eikom. Visitation on Friday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.
Funeral Services for Kay will be held on Friday, July 8, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Sigdal Lutheran Church, rural Tolna, ND with Reverend Sheri Fredrickson officiating. Burial will be in the Sigdal Church Cemetery.
Casket Bearers will be Kay’s grandchildren with music provided by Faith Kapp, soloist and Diane Hoveskeland, pianist.
