Theresa Mary, daughter of Benjamin and Mary (St. Claire) DuBois was born on April 29, 1933 at Fort Totten, ND. She was one of eight children, growing up in a happy family on the Spirit Lake Nation. She attended Little Flower School in St. Michael, ND.
Theresa married her beloved Charles Charboneau on October 15, 1949 at Seven Dolors Catholic Church. They made their home in Fort Totten. Along with raising her family, Theresa also worked at Sioux Manufacturing Corp., St. Jude’s Home, at the Day Care Center in Fort Totten and then as a Teacher’s Aide in the Fort Totten School until she retired. Theresa also operated a small grocery store out of her home for several years.
In 1976, the family moved to Devils Lake and Theresa called it home until her death. Retirement did not last long for Theresa and she worked at REM and also did babysitting in her home for family and friends.
While living in Fort Totten, Theresa was a very active member of Seven Dolors Church and enjoyed making the candles for special feast days, making the Communion bread and also taught CCD for several years.
Theresa was very into “craft projects”. She was always anxious to tackle something new. She enjoyed crocheting and loved to share her creations with family and friends. Trips to the Casino always meant a good time visiting with old friends and making new ones. The highlights in Theresa’s life were her children and grandchildren. She loved their visits and hearing about all their activities and adventures.
