Andrew D. “Andy” Demarce Sr., 80 of the Spirit Lake Nation began his journey to the Spirit World on Sunday, August 14, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Center, Devils Lake surrounded by his loving family.
A Wake for Andy will be held on Thursday, (tomorrow) August 18, 2016 at St. Michael’s Wellness Center, St. Michael, ND beginning at 5:30 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 8:00 p.m. The procession to St. Michael will leave on Thursday (tomorrow) at 5:00 p.m. from City Plaza, Devils Lake.
Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Friday, August 19, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church with Father Paul Schuster celebrating the Mass. Andy will be laid to rest in St. Michael’s Cemetery beside his beloved Lillian.
Andrew Dean, son of Frank and Bertha (IronHawk) Demarce was born on July 29, 1936 at Devils Lake, ND. Andy lived most of his life on the Spirit Lake Nation. He attended Calvary Square School in Fort Totten. He worked hard to help support the family when his Dad went into the service.
Andy was united in marriage to his beloved Lillian Mary Cavanaugh on July 13, 1959 at Minnewaukan, ND. They made their home near Tokio, ND where they lived, worked and raised their four boys and adopted sons. Andy worked for a time at Sioux Manufacturing Corporation and Tribal Road Department. He retired several years ago as the Bus Driver for Head Start. A job he so enjoyed.
Andy was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed the outdoors and especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was very talented at arts and crafts, including making hand drums, art designs using deer antlers just to name a few.
Andrew leaves to mourn his passing. His sons Andrew (Tammie Yankton) Demarce Jr., Marshall (Dierdre) Demarce, Marlan Demarce, Preston Demarce and adopted sons Wesley BigTrack Sr., Napoleon “Curly” Fournier and Curtis Meeches; twenty-two grandchildren; thirty-one great grandchildren; brother Thaddaeus "Tonto" Demarce Sr.; sister Hilda Wieker; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter Marshell; grandson in infancy; sisters Anna Jane Quintana and Catherine T. Thompson and several nieces and nephews. He is reunited with his dear Lillian who died on April 16, 2016. They are again round dancing together in Heaven.
Casket Bearers for Andrew will be his grandsons Nick Demarce, Charles Demarce, Sage Demarce, P.J. Demarce, M.J. Demarce, Frank Demarce, Sonny Demarce and Delray Demarce.
Honorary Bearers will be Larry and Darla Thiele, Joe Lawrence, Vern Lambert, Carl McKay, Richard Yankton, Kenny Greywater, the Staff of the Good Samaritan Center and the CHR’s of the Spirit Lake Nation.
