Doris J. (Watson) Leftwich, 91 of Devils Lake formerly of Rugby and Hansboro, ND passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND.
Doris Watson Leftwich, was born on April 16, 1925 to Earle and Daisy (Patterson) Watson at Buffalo, New York. She was educated in Buffalo and Kenmore, New York. In June of 1943, she moved with her family to California.
While living in California, Doris met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Donald Leftwich in 1959. They began their married life together, started their family, then in the mid 1960’s moved to Don’s hometown of Hansboro, North Dakota. Doris began a long, dedicated career as an employee at Rolette County Social Services in Rolla, ND. In 1990 she retired and in 1991, she and Don moved to Rugby, ND. Don died on February 10, 2004. In December of 2004, Doris moved to Devils Lake to be closer to her family.
In her younger years, Doris was a talented seamstress, enjoyed other hand work projects and always tended a large vegetable and flower gardens. Her talent extended to oil painting and when she had time to sit and relax she loved to read and work crossword puzzles.
Doris leaves her daughter Carol Darling, Devils Lake; grandchildren Christina (Chris Jaeger) Leftwich, Megan (Blake) LaFleur, Kyle Dahle and DJ Darling; great grandchildren Rowan and Rosalyn LaFleur; sisters Elaine Straw, Galesburg, Illinois and Helen Hyde, Palms Springs, CA; several nieces and nephews and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Donald
Funeral Services for Doris will be held on Thursday, August 25, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. at Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake with Rev. Lori Broschat officiating. Graveside Services will be held on Friday, August 26, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hansboro Cemetery, rural Hansboro, ND.
