Yvonne C. Schwab

Yvonne C. Schwab, 79 of Devils Lake, ND passed away at her home in the loving care of her family and Altru Hospice on Friday morning, August 19, 2016. Mass of the Resurrection for Yvonne will be held on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Very Reverend C.F. Wilhelm celebrating the Mass. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Tuesday from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 4:00 p.m. Visitation on Wednesday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass. Yvonne Carol, daughter of Robert G. and Olga M. (Lagerquist) Campbell was born at Wales, ND on June 13, 1937. As a young child, the family moved to several states including California and Arkansas. The family returned to North Dakota when Yvonne was 9 years old. She completed her education at Lakota High School. Yvonne was united in marriage to the love of her life, Allan J. Schwab on February 4, 1955 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. They established their home in the Devils Lake area and would live, work and raise their family here for the rest of their lives. Along with raising her six children, Yvonne worked part-time at Mercy Hospital as a nursing assistant in the Obstetrics and Nursery Department and also at Carlson’s Bakery. When the kids were older, she was employed as a cook at the North Dakota School for the Deaf for over nineteen years, retiring in 1997. In retirement, she and Allan enjoyed travel, especially visiting with family and friends. Allan died on July 17, 2000 and later that year, Yvonne moved into Devils Lake. She was an avid reader and always enjoyed the challenge of crossword puzzles, search-a-word and game shows on TV. But the most important part of Yvonne’s life was her family. She loved to celebrate all big and small family achievements, holidays and what would Saturday be without “brunch” with the kids. There were daily phone calls from family, just to say “hi” and “I love you” and Yvonne made sure the love was spread to children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. They were her pride and joy, the sparkle in her eyes, the reason for her happiness. Yvonne was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother; a woman of faith and trust in her Lord and a true friend to many. Yvonne is survived by her children Mike (Sue) Schwab, Maple Grove, MN, Steve (Charlotte) Schwab, St. Paul, MN, Ron Schwab, Tom Schwab, Patty (Terry) Wallace and Kathi Schwab all of Devils Lake; grandchildren Christopher (Sara) Schwab, Jennifer (Mitch Weed) Schwab-Amber(Brandon) Buss, Stormi (Josh) Proulx, Josh (Ken) Schwab-Spencer Wallace, Braden Wallace, Mikayla Wallace; great grandchildren Kristin, Sienna, and Sebastian Schwab and Owen Mack, Piper and Elaina Buss, Reese and Brityn Proulx and many dear in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Allan; brother Howard Campbell and sisters Denise Campbell in infancy, Sharon Hall and Diane Campbell. Casket Bearers for Yvonne will be her grandchildren Chris, Jenny, Amber, Stormi, Josh, Spencer, Braden and Mikayla. Reading the Scriptures will be Amber Buss and Kristin Schwab, Gift Bearers will be Yvonne’s children and music will be provided by Lynne Webster and Audrey Myklebust.
