Pearl Maxine Tucker was born January 17, 1924 near Des Lacs and Burlington ND. She moved to Granville ND and at age nine, after the death of her mother, she moved to Devils Lake where she stayed with her Aunt Nellie and Uncle Arlie Reader. In 1942 she graduated from Devils Lake High School. It was at Devils Lake that she met her husband Helmer Oram.
During World War II, while Helmer was fighting over seas, she worked in the defense plant at Cheyenne Wyoming where she was a riveter on the air planes. After the war, Helmer and Pearl purchased a farm West of Devils Lake on the 6 Mile Bay. Along with farming they drove the mail truck between Fargo and Devils Lake. After the death of her husband, on July 4, 1970, Pearl continued to farm and ranch with her son Gary.
She enjoyed the farm and had a special love for animals of all kinds. She had a green thumb and always had many house plants, flowers and vegetable gardens. She loved spending time with her family, travelling to visit them, attending games and activities, and caring for grandchildren. In the 1970s she had one of the first campgrounds on the lake.
Pearl was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Devils Lake where she served as a Sunday school teacher and was active in Women’s Missionaries. She enjoyed attending the Lakewood Park Bible Camp since the early 1950s.
