Marvin S. Dahl

Marvin Sanford Dahl, age 85 passed away peacefully on Friday, October 7, 2016 at Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake. Marvin was born October 14, 1930 in Edmore, ND to Ludvig and Sena (Dovre) Dahl. He graduated from Edmore High School with the class in 1948. He went on to enlist in the United States Army on December 7, 1951, serving in the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged on December 7, 1953. Marvin was united in marriage to Leona (Lee) Praska of Park River, ND on January 7, 1955. They shared 61 years of marriage. He was a man of many trades, including working for the City of Devils Lake Water Department, as a journeyman plumber and at Lake Region State College in the tool shop for the Auto/Diesel Mechanics Program. Marvin retired in 1992, but continued his part-time work in the Maintenance Department at Lake Region Clinic and continued to enjoy mowing grass at Heartland Care Center for several years, until September 29, 2015 when poor health forced him off the mower at almost 85 years of age. Marvin had an amazing green thumb and usually had two gardens from which he joyfully shared his garden abundance. Marvin would come indoors to watch the Minnesota Twins and UND Sioux Hockey. He never missed an opportunity to follow the Devils Lake Firebirds hockey or basketball teams or the LRSC basketball teams. After retirement he enjoyed travelling and the trip to Norway and learning more about his Norwegian heritage was the trip of a lifetime. Marvin and Lee were the proud parents of Dale (Noreen) Dahl of Billings, MT; Lori (Tim) Friezen of Grand Forks, ND; Robert (Sally) Dahl and Karissa (Rich) Olson all of Devils Lake. He was also a proud grandpa to 9 grandchildren; Kim Dahl, Kristopher (Katrina) Dahl, Brandon (Jessica) Friezen, Kelsey (Kyle) Weber, Amber Friezen, Becca and Abbey Dahl and Mikaela and Brittyn Olson. They were further blessed with 4 great grandchildren; Morgan Dahl, Tayvin Dahl, TJ and Molly Friezen. He is also survived by his sister Shirley (Ray) Rollness and family of Langdon, ND. Marvin is preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws James and Agnes Praska; brother Harvey Dahl; sisters-in-law Barb Staven and Florence Longie and great granddaughter Morgan Dahl. We will miss the twinkle of his beautiful blue eyes.
