Donald M. Johnson, 70 of Northwood, ND passed away early Tuesday morning, October 11, 2016 at the Northwood Deaconess Health Center.
Funeral Services for Donald will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake.
Visitation will be on Friday, October 14th from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and will continue on Saturday one hour prior to the funeral service, all at the Gilbertson Funeral Home.
Military Honors will be accorded by the Neathery-Simensen Post #756, Devils Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars and the North Dakota Military Funeral Honors Team.
Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown, ND at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 15th.
Donald Marvin, son of Albert and Lydia (Bowden) Johnson was born on June 16, 1946 at Jamestown, ND. He was reared and educated in Jamestown, graduating from a local high school.
On October 16, 1964, he enlisted in the North Dakota Army National Guard and proudly served as a weekend guardsman for many years in both North Dakota and Oregon. His basic training was completed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
In 1967, Donald moved to Oregon where he lived and worked and started a family after his marriage to Glenda Wickliffe-Hill in 1969 at Gervais, Oregon. In 1986, Donald returned to North Dakota and made his home in Esmond. He was employed with the City of Esmond for several years and also was a volunteer with the Esmond City Fire Department.
Donald returned to Oregon in 1991, but soon North Dakota was calling him home, so he moved to Grand Forks in 1995 and then to Northwood in 1998 where he and Carol Johnson were married. He was employed at the Deaconess Health Center until his declining health forced him to retire.
In his earlier years, Donald enjoyed hunting and working with model cars.
Donald proudly served his country and did his best to provide for his family.
Donald is survived by his wife, Carol Johnson of Northwood, ND; children Allen (Jennifer) Johnson, Devils Lake, Dwayne (Dee) Johnson, Fruita, Colorado, Tony (Karen Schill) Johnson, Grand Forks, ND, April Johnson,Wyoming and Angie (Marty Bauer) Johnson, Carrington, ND; grandchildren Bethany, Sara, Jassen, Karrii, Amber, Justin, Nelson, Sabrina, Haley and Dakota; great grandchildren Ethan and Giovanni; mother of his children Glenda Nickeson; several nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son Jassen Johnson; brothers Lloyd Johnson and Arthur Johnson; sister Elaine Windberg and step father Jacob Schneider.
