Gerald Michael “Jerry” Griffin Jr., 54 of Minneapolis, MN formerly of St. Michael, ND entered into heaven on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at the Canden Care Center in North Minneapolis.
The Wake for Jerry will be held on Sunday, October 16, 2016 at the Tekakwitha Center, St. Michael, ND beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. The procession to St. Michael will leave at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday from City Plaza.
Mass of the Resurrection will be on Monday, October 17, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church with Father Paul Schuster celebrating the Mass. Jerry will be laid to rest in St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery.
Casket Bearers for Jerry will be Patrick Griffin Jr., Skyler Griffin, Eugene Lohnes, Doug Lohnes, Rusty “Coogie” Hunt, Gerald Griffin III, Sean Griffin, Richard Littleghost and Stacy Archambault.
Honorary Bearers will be Mike Pantze, Pete Franklin, Frank Doles, Paul Latenville, ThunderHawk Family, Littleghost Family, Hunt Family, Lohnes Family, IronHeart Family and his special Christian Roommate in Minneapolis.
Gerald was born June 7, 1962 in Minneapolis, MN to Gerald and Marian (Lohnes) Griffin. Gerald was an enrolled member of the Spirit Lake Tribe. He attended grade school and high school in Minneapolis. He later received his GED.
Some of Gerald’s interests were taking long walks along the lakes of Minneapolis, watching movies, enjoying the company of his brother and was also a huge Minnesota Vikings Fan.
Gerald worked for Municipal Parking Inc. (MPI) for 15 years as the supervisor for the janitorial/maintenance crew. He painted houses in Minneapolis for several years as well.
In the summer of 1981, Gerald returned to the Spirit Lake Nation and fell in love with his companion Bonita Littleghost and together they had three sons, Nolan, Michael and Gerald III. They later moved back to Minneapolis where for 10 years they raised their children together. He later had two more children Cheyenne and Skyler who now reside in Rosebud, South Dakota.
Gerald will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and willingness to help others.
Gerald is survived by his loving family. His sons Nolan, Michael and Gerald Griffin III of Minneapolis and Skyler Griffin Rosebud, SD and daughter, Cheyenne Griffin also of Rosebud; three grandsons and three granddaughters all living in Minneapolis; brother Patrick Griffin Sr. (Lesa Littleghost) of Minneapolis; sister Ramona Lohnes, Mesa, AZ; aunt Elizabeth Lacroix of South Dakota; uncle David (Jeanne) Lohnes Sr. of St. Michael; nieces Nicole (Stacy) Griffin, Ida (Joseph) Sanchez and Denise (Rusty) Hunt; nephews Eugene (Jessica) Lohnes, Aaron Lohnes, Patrick Griffin Jr., Sean (Vivianna) Griffin and Sidney Clark.
He was preceded in death by his parents Gerald and Marian; aunties Teresa Zertuche, Margaret IronHeart and Lillian Hunt; uncles Edward Lohnes, Eugene Lohnes, Paul Lohnes and Roger Lohnes; nephew Sean Griffin; cousin Ronald Hunt.
