Joan M. “Joanie” (Mootz) Janzen, 69 of Devils Lake, ND passed away on Friday, November 18, 2016 at Valley Memorial Home in Grand Forks, ND in the loving care of her family and Hospice.
Funeral Service for Joan will be on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at Peace Lutheran Church, Devils Lake with Reverend Lyle Belleque officiating. Burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Friday, November 25th from 5:00 p.n. until 7:00 p.m.
Joan M. “Joanie” (Mootz) Janzen, 69 of Devils Lake, ND passed away on Friday, Nov. 18, 2016 at Valley Memorial Home in Grand Forks, in the loving care of her family and Hospice.
Joan was born on July 31, 1947 at Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake to Minnie (Moe) and Clarence Mootz. She grew up in Devils Lake and attended Washington Elementary School and Minnie H. She graduated from Devils Lake Central High in 1965. Joan continued at Bismarck Hospital School of Nursing.
She returned to Devils Lake and was employed at Lake Region Lutheran Home and later was the head Receptionist at Lake Region Clinic before accepting the position as Supervisor of Medical Records at Lake Region Clinic where she remained until retirement in 2011 after 47 years.
In 1968, Joan married Norman Janzen at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake. They lived out their married life in Devils Lake raising their two sons.
She and Norm were charter members of Peace Lutheran Church and she remained an active member her entire life. She was very involved in all the projects of the WELCA and also was a member of the church choir.
Joan was dedicated to her work and devoted to her family. She was all about family, enjoying camping, boating and baking everyone’s favorites. She was a talented seamstress and sewed all kinds of clothing, including sewing wedding dresses. Her grandchildren were everything to her and she treasured every single moment with them. She enjoyed teaching them how to sew, bake, make lefse and so many other life lessons. She even loved her grand puppies, she called her “Fur Babies”.
Joanie loved life and counted everything in her life and every day of her life as a blessing. Her positive attitude was her trade mark and her legacy to her family.
Joan is survived by her husband of 48 years; her pride and joy sons, Brad (Shawna) Janzen Webster, ND and Ryan (Andrea) Janzen, Dickinson, ND; grandchildren Austin, Taylor, McKayla, Caleb and Dylan (Beth); brothers and sisters Meloyd (Kay) Mootz, Bismarck, ND, Douglas Mootz, Devils Lake, Michael Mootz, Mesa, AZ, Mavis (Jerry) Janzen, Devils Lake and Judy Stewart, Monticello, MN and many nieces, nephews and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Betty Pfeifer, Cheryl Jones, Janice Bertsch and Irene Eng and brother Arlen Mootz.
