Delemma M.”Duma” “Kunsi” Greywater, “Awasteya Yanka” (Sitting Pretty) 73 of St. Michael, ND passed away, peacefully, on Wednesday evening, November 23, 2016 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND.
A Wake for Delemma will be held on Friday, December 2, 2016 at the St. Michael’s Recreation Center beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Delemma will be at her home on Friday from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and the procession to St. Michael’s will leave from her home at 4:30 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Michael’s Catholic Church on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Paul Schuster celebrating the Mass. (Services may be held at the Recreation Center depending on the weather.) Burial will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery.
Those assisting with the services will be Pastor Paul Young and Robert Greywater.
Delemma Mae was born on March 13, 1943 at Fort Totten, ND the daughter of Elizabeth (Robertson) and Alex Greywater Sr. She lived most of her life on the Spirit Lake Nation except when away at school. She was educated at Fort Totten until the school closed in 1959. She then went to Flandreau Indian School at Flandreau, South Dakota graduating in 1962. She attended the Haskell Indian College in Lawrence, Kansas from 1963 to 1964 and then completed her education at Aberdeen School of Commerce in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
Delemma returned to the Fort Totten area and worked at Sioux Manufacturing for 40 plus years, retiring in May of 2016. She was very active in the school and the community. She served on the Elderly Council, Tribal Social Services Board and the District #30 School Board. She was an active member of the Four Winds Booster Club and also the Dakotah Sioux Prayer Group. She was a loving Foster Parent from 1983 to 2005.
Delemma was a proud parent and stated “I raised five boys and one girl as a single parent, and loved every minute of it”.
Delemma is survived by her sons Sheldon (Bridget) Greywater and Wayne Greywater and daughter Elisa (Lee Bull) Greywater; special grandchildren Gary Owlboy, Dara Smith, Darcy Smith, Delvin Greywater Jr., Devin Greywater, Danacia Greywater, Dawndra Greywater, Dacey Greywater, Davin Greywater, Christian Greywater, D’Angelo Littlewind, D’Wayne Greywater, D’Neiliyah Bull and Delemma Bull; precious great grandchildren Cotto, Ava and Cass; brothers Robert Greywater Sr. and Kenneth (Bev) Greywater; sisters Renae (James) LeNoir, Sonta (Dean) Dauphinais and Della Belgarde Bull; step sisters Beverly LaBelle, Barbara Robertson and Brenda Robertson; stepbrother Wilbert “Jiggs” (Judy) Robertson; special nieces & Nephews; Robert (Carol) Greywater Jr, Lisa Greywater, Shirley “Beasley” Stensland, Rhonda Greywater, Kim ThreeIrons, DeNa Lenoir, Kendell Greywater, Erica Greywater and Felicia Greywater; godchildren Denise Dauphinais, Rhonda Greywater, Felicia Greywater, Tonya Feather, Chanelle Littlewind, Tina Hook, David Azure Jr., Kim ThreeIrons, Clarice Fox, Melanie Demarce, Shanda Littlewind and Holly Herman and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
In Delemma’s words “If I forgot anyone it wasn’t intentional. I’m old now you know”.
Delemma will be welcomed home by her loving family. Her parents Alex and Elizabeth; step-father Jerry Robertson; loving sons Delvin Louis Greywater Sr., Neil Alexander Greywater and Donald Smith; brothers Israel Greywater, Damion Greywater, Richard Greywater, Alex Greywater Jr., Michael Greywater and Andrew “Chuck” Greywater; sister Pamela Greywater; grandparents Mini Hota, Celina Lawrence, Louis Belgarde, Celina Cadot Belgarde, Frank GreyHorn and Mary Johnson; godchildren Gilbert Fasset and Troy Woods; special nieces Bobbi Greywater and Danyell Faye Littlewind; special friends Diane Woods, Francine “Pinoch” Lamrose, Dion Iceman and Jordan Iceman.
