David Brent Overvold, 55, of Devils Lake,ND, died at his home on November 30,2016.
David was born on December 28, 1960 at Trinity Hospital, Minot ND to Olav and Helen Overvold. His younger years were divided between the home farm near Velva during the summer/holidays and Grafton State School until 1978. He then lived with family while attending Erik Ramstad School in Minot, graduating in 1982.
He lived and worked in Minot at the Minot Vocational Workshop until moving to Devils Lake in 1996 where he was an employee at the recycling plant and trash pickup crew of Devils Lake. David was also a valued employee at Lake Region Corporation and received support services from REM ND.
David loved his family and family gatherings whether at the Velva home farm, yearly trips to visit his sister Ardi and family in WA, or weekends at the Berg farm near Starkweather.
He loved latch hooking, the Seattle Seahawks, and hugs. He worshipped at Bethel E-Free church in Devils Lake and Trinity-Bergen Lutheran in Starkweather.
He is survived by his father, Olav Overvold (Cando ND), sisters and brothers: Helen & Palmer Lindlauf (Benedict ND), Phil & Vicki Overvold (Velva ND), Solveig & Bruce Bentson (Inver Grove Heights MN), Ardis & Randy Libak (Snohomish WA), Elizabeth & Jim Berg (Starkweather ND), Mark & Karen Schmeets (Manassas VA); Aunt: Ruth Overvold (Minot ND); many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen (Hystad) Overvold; stepmother Eleanor (Schmeets) Overvold; brothers Verdell Hage & Jerry Hage; grandparents Birgit & Paul Overvold, Lisa & Jens Hystad.
Special thanks to the staff at REM and LRC for helping David live life to the fullest.
The family suggests memorials can be given to Special Olympics or the North Prairie Cemetery Fund.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. at Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake with Reverend Rob Buecheler officiating. Burial will be at a later date at the North Prarie Cemetery, rural Velva, ND. All family and friends of David are welcomed and encouraged to attend his services.
