Ludwena “Lud” (Zainhofsky) Syverson, 81 of Esmond, ND passed away on Christmas Day, December 25, 2016 at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby, ND.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, December 30, 2016 at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake, ND at 10:30 a.m. with Father Brian Bachmeier officiating.
Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Thursday, December 29th from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 6:00 p.m. Visitation on Friday will be one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Esmond, ND in the spring of 2017.
Ludwena, daughter of Martin and Juliana (Wolfe) Zainhofsky was born on August 7, 1935 at Towner, ND. She was reared and educated in the Esmond area and graduated from Esmond Public School with the class of 1953. She continued her education at Minot Teacher’s College.
On November 5, 1956, Lud was united in marriage to Stanley E. Syverson at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Esmond. They lived for a short time in Devils Lake then moved to Grand Forks, ND. Lud concentrated on raising her family and did work part-time as a bartender in Grand Forks.
In 1968, they moved to the Syverson family farm and Stan took over operation of the farm. In 1974 they moved into Esmond where they lived the rest of their lives. Lud first worked as a Teacher’s Aide at the Esmond School and then was employed with Community Lanes, C&R Lounge (the only 2 lane bowling alley in North Dakota) for over 20 years retiring in the early 2000’s.
Lud was a member of St. Boniface Church and was active in the Altar Society. She so enjoyed being a member of the Gutter Duster Bowling Team and was an avid bowler in her younger years.
Lud spent a good majority of her life learning how to be the wife of a farmer and always had a huge garden with plenty to share. More than anything, she loved sitting and visiting over a cup of coffee and whatever sweets she had made. She was a great card player and loved a good game of almost anything. She also loved word puzzles and “Wheel of Fortune”.
Lud is survived by her loving family. Her daughters and sons-in-law Julianne (Julie Syverson) and Dwight Bergeron and Karen (Syverson) and Bruce Pallansch all of Devils Lake; grandchildren Shawn Keller, Minot, Valerie Hewson (fiancé Matt Carmen), Devils Lake and step grandson Aaron (Laurie) Pallansch, Devils Lake; great grandchildren Bradyn and ChayLee Hewson, Kyleigh Keller, Rylan and Charlee Pallansch; sisters Eileen Leibhan, Minot and Lucille Parsons, Auburn, WA; sisters-in-law Mary Syverson, Esmond, Janicy Syverson, Valley City, Ardella (Delton) Boyer, Fargo, Susan Syverson, Faribault, MN and Eleanor Ehni, Fessenden; special friends Toby Hoffner, Delores Wentz and family, Julin Hagen and family and numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Stanley on December 18, 2016; son Michael in 2008; brother Anthony Zainhofsky and brothers-in-law Neil Syverson, Warren Syverson and John Leibhan.
Casket Bearers will be Dwight Bergeron, Bruce Pallansch, Shawn Keller, Aaron Pallansch, Matt Carmen, Toby Hoffner, Bob Syverson and Bradley Bergeron. Music will be provided by Tom Burckhard, Sherry Kurtz and JoDee Lagein.
