Gerald L. Vannett, 64 of Devils Lake formerly of Minot, ND passed away on Monday, January 2, 2017 at Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake. A Wake for Gerald will be held at the Tekakwitha Center, St. Michael, ND on Friday, January 6, 2017 beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. The procession to St. Michael will leave on Friday at 4:00 p.m. from City Plaza. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 7th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church with Father Paul Schuster celebrating the Mass. Burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery at a later date. Gerald Lee Vannett was born April 19, 1952 in Minot, North Dakota to Henry and Delores (Mogard) Vannett. He was raised and educated in Minot, graduating from Magic City High School in 1970. He married Renee Anderson on November 29, 1975 and they had three children Michael, Lisa and Amanda. In 1990, Gerald moved to Devils Lake where he met and married Lila Peltier on October 10, 2003. They established their home in Devils Lake and Gerald worked for Porter Brothers until they closed. He then was employed with Sioux Manufacturing Corporation in Fort Totten for several years until failing health forced him to retire. Gerald lived life to the fullest. He loved to joke and tease friends and family and was always a happy-go-lucky guy. Time with family and friends included playing cards, go dancing and most every night, he and Lila were out driving around enjoying the beauty of nature and keeping track of the deer population. Gerald was a fan of the Minnesota Vikings and was an avid collector of Vikings memorabilia. But most precious to Gerald, was time spent with his grandchildren and dear family. He is survived by his loving family. His wife, Lila; step children Delbert Herald, Sam Herald, Charlie Kiviniemi Jr. and Jamie Herald; children Michael Vannett, and Lisa Vannett (Brian Henry) all of Minot and Amanda (Con) Enget of Trenton; four grandchildren Emma and Gavin Vannett, Charles Dubois Kiviniemi and Nattille Dubois; three great grandchildren April,,, and Avary Herald and Jace Vetscher; his father and step mother Henry and Loretta (Benjamin) Vannett of Bismarck; step father Marvin Schultz, Souris, ND; brothers Gary Vannett, Souris, Rodney Vannett, Minot, Rick Vannett, Powers Lake, Kevin (Pat) Vannett, Mandan, David Schultz also of Souris; sisters Sheri Colby, Minot, Susan (Rodney) Bjorklund and Diane (Paul) Nieuwsma all of Bismarck; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Brenda Peltier and Patrick Peltier of Devils Lake, Camilla (Raymond) Smith, Fort Totten and Mary Ellen (Pat) Charboneau, St. Michael, ND; many nieces and nephews, two great nephews and several great nieces. He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents Alfred and Gertie (Haslemo) Mogard and paternal grandparents Cicero and Alma (Nelson) Vannett; mother Delores Schultz; brother Roger Vannett and nephew Troy Shaw. Pallbearers will be Robby Mock, Devin Smith, Jeremy Miller, Lance Henry, Tim McKay and Lain Adams. Honorary Pallbearers are Delbert Herald, Pat Peltier, Charlie Kiviniemi, Clarence Houle, Raymond Smith, Mikey McDonald and Brian Henry.
