David R. Lawrence, 49 of St. Michael, ND passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at CHI, St. Alexius Health, Devils Lake Hospital. David Robert Lawrence, (Big Dave) Mato ZuYa Ta Pejuta “He’s painted with Bear Medicine” was born on July 18, 1967 in Fort Yates, North Dakota. He was the loving son of Belva (BirdHorse) Greyhorn and the late Lynn Lawrence Sr. He attended grade school in Wakpala, South Dakota until the family moved to St. Michael, ND in 1977. He then went to St. Michael grade school and continued his schooling at Warwick Public School until he graduated with the class of “1985”. He was employed at Sioux Manufacturing, Dakota Tribal Industries, Spirit Lake Casino and Tecta America, formerly known as Target Roofing, up until his health forced him to quit. He was blessed with 4 sons-Christopher Christofferson, DaLynn Lawrence which was his special lil guy, actually his lil twin, Stephen Lohnes and Adam Redfox. David was a very special individual to his family. He was there if you needed help with whatever the situation was. He was our “Jokester” in the family always making everyone laugh. That is what he will always be remembered for making people laugh and leaving a smile on your face. We will miss his humor always. A few of his enjoyments were playing on his pool league team with his good friends. He also enjoyed darts and throwing horse shoes with his brother-in-law, Rick Dubois. David’s loving family. A Wake for David will be held on Thursday, January 12th, 2017 at St. Michael’s Wellness Center beginning at 4:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 8:00 p.m. The procession to St. Michael will leave on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. from City Plaza. There will be final review and services on Friday, January 13th at 10:00 a.m. at the Wellness Center. Funeral Services and burial will be in the spring of 2017 at the Oster Funeral Home in Mobridge, South Dakota and David will be laid to rest in the Long Hill, Family Cemetery at Wakpala, South Dakota.
