Rebecca F. “Becky” Longie-Hinojos, 65, began her journey to the Spirit World on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND Rebecca Faye “Becky” Longie was born on February 7, 1951 in Fort Totten, ND to Mercie (Jerome) and Steven Longie. She was raised in the Crow Hill District of the Spirit Lake Nation. She attended school in Fort Totten before moving to Oakland, California as a teenager. It was during this time when she met the love of her life, Reuben Hinojos. Their son, Vincent was born on September 21, 1969. While living in California, Becky worked at a hospital in the Bay Area as a Dietary Aide. After living in Oakland and Union City, CA for several years, the family moved to Carlsbad, New Mexico in 1975. She worked at Guadalupe Medical Center for over 10 years in the kitchen of the Dietary Department. On February 19, 1981, Becky and Reuben welcomed their daughter, Bree Anne into the world. Becky and Reuben were officially married in October of 1987 in Carlsbad, NM. Becky and her family moved back to North Dakota in 1991, residing on the Spirit Lake Nation. She worked as a cook many years in several places including Mercy Hospital, Four Winds Community School, Spirit Lake Casino and Resort and the Spirit Lake Head Start. Even though she could not work full-time anymore due to health issues, Becky was still able to put in hours under a grant from the National Indian Council on Aging at the Norma Rainbow Elderly Complex in Fort Totten. Becky loved her grandchildren dearly and spoke of them often to her many friends. She always looked forward to taking trips with her daughter to Minnesota to visit her grandchildren. She also loved spending time with her special niece, Felicia and her children Kobe and Courtney. Becky was a loving, kind person with an outgoing personality that matched her big smile. She had a great sense of humor and was always laughing and smiling. She was known for her generosity as well, giving away food or clothing when someone else needed it more. She will be greatly missed. Becky is survived by her husband Reuben Hinojos; sons Ruben Hinojos and Vincent Hinojos; daughter Bree Anne Hinojos; grandsons Lucas Hinojos, Bud Azure, Gemini Hinojos and Gionno Cavanaugh; granddaughters Madeleine “Maddy” Hinojos, Grace Hinojos and Giselle Gourd; brothers Erich Longie, Corwin Longie, Pete Longie, Chris Nelson Sr., Tom Brown and Ivan Brown; sisters April St. Pierre and Bernadette “Punky” Brown and many cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. She was preceded in death by her parents, Steve and Mercie; son Aaron Hinojos; sisters Martina Young and Marcie McKay; brothers Phillip John Young and Mark Longie; grandparents Phillip and Mary Agnes Jerome and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Pallbearers for Becky will be Darcy Longie, Marshall J. Longie, Anthony Longie, Ken Demarce, Chris Nelson Jr., Ryan Longie, Lucas Hinojos and Marshall Longie. Honorary Pallbearers are Myra Pearson, Cheryl “Porky” Cloud, Jane Lamrose, Sandra Miller, Tammy Putnam, Elaine Robinson, Jeanne Cavanaugh, Luwonna Cavanaugh, Tanya Rae Feather, Missy Feather, Catalina Herman, Donna Rae Morin, Virginia Carrasco, Patsy Bull, Clarice Fox, Elrae Mazakahomni, Sally Cavanaugh, Jeff WhiteBuffalo, Donna WhiteBuffalo, Annabel Cavanaugh, Stanley Jetty, Eldora Feather, Lolita Gourd, Leander and Francine McDonald, Bob and Eileen Hessling, Lili Demarce, Raul and Yolanda Alvarado. If we forgot anyone, we apologize. Becky made many, many friends throughout her life. The Wake for Becky will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at the Fort Totten Wellness Center beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. The procession to Fort Totten will leave at 4:00 p.m. from City Plaza. Funeral Services will be on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. also at the Fort Totten Wellness Center with Pastor Paul Young officiating. Becky will be laid to rest in St. Thomas Episcopal Cemetery, rural Fort Totten.
