Loretta M. Buchmeier

Loretta Margaret (Keller) Buchmeier, 90, died on Friday, February 17, 2017 at Eventide Heartland Care Center in Devils Lake.  Loretta was born December 13, 1926 in Selz, ND to John and Anna (Fleck) Keller. On October 11, 1948, she married Anton “Tony” Buchmeier.  They farmed in the Crary area until their retirement in 1993.  Loretta was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Altar Society and Infant of Prague. She was a former longtime member of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, rural Crary, ND.  Loretta was well known for her baking, especially her kuchen and donuts which she enjoyed sharing with family and friends.  She also worked at Leevers, as a demonstrator for several years.  Loretta is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law: Rebecca and Dav VanBockel, Lousiville, KY; Karen and Gene Hoffart, Devils Lake; LouAnn and Bruce Burke, Portland, ND; Victoria and Dennis Thomas, Mandan, ND; Patti and Todd Anderson, Pleasant Hill, OR; sons and daughters-in-law: David and Annette (Brannan) Buchmeier, rural Devils Lake and Steven and Kristen (Dimmler) Buchmeier, rural Crary; sixteen grandchildren: Jane (Brian) Kuhn, Kristin (Geoff) Homan; Shannon Fitzpatrick, Chad Hoffart, Ashley (Matthew) Franzen; Kara (Brent) Wolf, Tanya (Matt) Strand, Dana Burke, Sara (Mike) Engen; Christopher Thomas, Nicole Speed; Shawn (Megan) Buchmeier; Brett Buchmeier, Blake Buchmeier; Erica (Jaime) Parra, Joshua Anderson; twenty-one great grandchildren, Keller and Carter Kuhn; Marissa and Danielle Homan; Destiny, Hailey and Trevor Fitzpatrick; Cameron and Corbin Wolf; Jacob, Anna and Madelyn Strand; Harrison and John Phillips; Anthony and Aaron Engen; Anna Thomas and Juwaun Speed; Colter and Nora Buchmeier; Christian Parra. She also leaves behind her sisters Louise Morse, Fargo; Laura McCarthy and Jane Thompson both of Devils Lake: sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Mary Volk and Betty Bachmeier, Devils Lake, Evelyn Hager, Ralph and Alexis Bachmeier, Leonard and Marilyn Bachmeier all of the St. Paul, MN area and many nieces and nephews.  Loretta was preceded in death by her parents, John and Anna Keller; husband Tony and his parents, Jack and Catherine Bachmeier; brother and sister-in-law Clarence and Gloria Keller; sisters and brothers-in-law: MaryAnn and Bert Schiele, Lenore and Art Olson, Jack McCarthy, Clarence Morse and Jim Thompson; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law: Ed Volk, Ed Hager, Wendelin Bachmeier, Raymond Bachmeier, Bernard Bachmeier, Katherine and Jack Schiele.   Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake with the Very Reverend C.F. Wilhelm celebrating the Mass. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 21st from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake and from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with a Rosary and Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m.  Visitation on Wednesday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass.  Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society in memory of Loretta. Serving as Casket Bearers for Loretta will be her grandsons Chad Hoffart, Shawn Buchmeier, Brett Buchmeier, Blake Buchmeier, Joshua Anderson and great grandson, Juwaun Speed. Reading the Scriptures will be Dennis Thomas and Todd Anderson. Gift Bearers will be Loretta’s granddaughters: Ashley Franzen, Erica Parra, Dana Burke, Nicole Speed and Kristin Homan.  Music will be provided by Kensi Wateland, great niece, and Audrey Myklebust.
