Melinda "Lindy" Marie Pare (DeVoogdt)

Melinda “Lindy” M. Paré, 60 of Devils Lake, ND passed away on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND surrounded by her loving family.  Melinda Marie, the daughter of Joseph and Margaret (Bachmeier) DeVoogdt was born on June 19, 1956 at New Rockford, ND. She grew up on the family farm, rural Tokio and attended Warwick Public School, graduating with the class of “1974”.  She was active in school activities and was a sports cheerleader.  Lindy married in 1975 and was the proud mother of Christopher and Allen and dedicated her life to caring and providing for them. Lindy worked in the Medical Records Department at Lake Region Clinic and also in the Pharmacy. She received her Pharmacy Technician license and worked for several years at Ramsey Drug and also volunteered at SAAF House.  While working, Lindy attended Lake Region Junior College and received and Associates Degree in Liberal Arts.  The family moved to Fargo and Lindy continued her education at Minnesota State University-Moorhead advancing her certification as a Pharmacy Technician. Lindy met the love of her life, Steve Herrick and they would share a life of love, laughter and tears for the next 15 years until her death. They made their home on a lake near Pelican Rapids, MN and they worked for Noridian as  telecommuters, processing medical claims.  In 2013, they moved to Devils Lake but continued working for Noridian.  For the past 9 months, Lindy was employed with the Devils Lake Wal-Mart.  Lindy loved the outdoors; the lake, boating, pontooning, basking in the sunshine and fishing, anything that could be enjoyed on a lake in the sunlight. She was also an avid reader and always kept on top of medical and pharmaceutical advances. She also had a large and growing collection of miniature spoons. Lindy had a strong faith and was active in her church and also with Beginning Experiences. Lindy, always in our thoughts and prayers and forever in our hearts. Lindy is survived by her beloved Steve; sons Christopher (Debra) Paré, Jordan, MN and Allen (Cindy) Paré, Tolna, ND; grandchildren Josefina Mojica, Fargo and Victoria and Jackie Paré also of Jordan; one great granddaughter; mother Marge DeVoogdt, Devils Lake; sister JoAnn (Gary) Grad, Devils Lake; brother Jim DeVoogdt, Tokio; brother-in-law Eugene LaMotte Sr., Devils Lake; mother-in-law Julia Herrick Sorlien, Fargo; sisters-in-law Mary Havelange, Diana Herrick and Carol (Damian) Ludwig all of Fargo and several nieces and nephews. Those who preceded Lindy in death were her father, Joe; sister Janelle LaMotte; nephew Kenny Grad; great nephew Clay LaMotte. Casket Bearers for Lindy will be Gene LaMotte Sr., Gene LaMotte, Jr., Amanda Hearns, Lance Hearns, Brandon Towers, Gary Grad, Damian Ludwig and Cole DeVoogdt. Reading the Scriptures will be Carol and Damian Ludwig and Gift Bearers will be JoAnn Grad and Steve Herrick. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, March 6, 2017 at 2:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake with the Very Reverend C.F. Wilhelm celebrating the Mass. Burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery.  Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Sunday, March 5th from 3:00 to 5:30 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 5:30 p.m. with the Reverend Mr. Ken Severinson, Deacon leading the services.  Visitation on Monday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral Mass.
