Jeffrey "Jungle" M. Engelhorn

Jeffrey M. “Jungle” Engelhorn, 66 of Devils Lake, ND passed away early Thursday morning, March 16, 2017 at his home.  Jeffrey Mitchell Engelhorn was born on May 12, 1950 at Devils Lake, ND the son of Homer and Lavina (Langton) Engelhorn. At a young age, Jeff moved with the family to Madison, South Dakota where he was reared and educated, graduating from Madison High School with the class of “1968”. On February 26, 1970 Jeff entered the United States Air Force at Sioux Falls, SD. He served his country during the Vietnam War, stationed in Vietnam and Thailand.  He served as a Security Policeman and also as a Medical Service Specialist at the US Air Force Hospital at Holloman Air Base in New Mexico.  He was honorably discharged on April 4, 1974 with the rank of Airman First Class.  While in Thailand, Jeff met and later married Thongyoy Supho “Oye” on June 18, 1973 and they were the proud parents of a beautiful daughter, Kimberly.  After his discharge, he continued in civil service at Las Cruces, New Mexico attending New Mexico State University and working in the medical field. In 1980, he returned to Devils Lake and worked at Langton Enterprises for many years. He later worked for Lake Region Corporation as a service provider and eventually was the Blackjack dealer for the Lake Region Corporation Charity. He also served as an EMT with Spirit Lake Ambulance. At the time of his death, he was employed as a Blackjack dealer for the Devils Lake Youth Activities. Jeff was a people person, he never met a stranger, and could strike up a conversation with anyone.  Jeff enjoyed watching most any kind of sports, especially sports his grandkids were competing in and he was always working on a crossword puzzle.  Jeff had two passions in life, his family and his music.  He was so proud of his grandchildren.  He was always the loudest cheerleader and their greatest fan in everything they did.  He played lead guitar with many bands including “North Band”, “Mischief” and “Mud Foot” to name a few.  Time with family and friends were always his most treasured moments in this life. Jeff is survived by his daughter Kimberly and her husband Steve Miller and his grandchildren Jagger and Neva Miller of Devils Lake; siblings Jan (James) Bauman, Colton, SD, Chris (Pat) Engelhorn, Decatur, Georgia, Ellen (Barry) Bjordahl, Renner, SD and Dave Engelhorn, Fargo, ND; special family friends Bryce, Lisa, Emily, Bonnie and Sara Crosby also of Devils Lake; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
