Kathleen Ann Rutherford, 66, of San Antonio, TX died on March 14, 2017 at home in San Antonio, TX after a courageous battle against cancer. A celebration of life for Kathy will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake, ND. She will be buried at the Devils Lake Cemetery. Kathy was born in Crosby, ND to Lawrence and Irene Rutherford on January 9, 1951. She graduated from Minot High School in 1969. Kathy attended St. Olaf College and the University of North Dakota. She finished her BSN degree at Loretto Heights College in Denver. She received a MSN degree from the University of New Mexico and completed a Geriatric Nurse Practitioner program at the University of Arkansas for Medical Science. As one of her close nursing friends stated: “Some people just pass through your life and touch you in a lasting way. Kathy was one of them. I have been thinking about it all day and I think it was a combination of her incredible integrity combined with such insightfulness and humor. Thinking I can never be as honestly good as she was but I will continue to try.” Kathy loved to travel, was a voracious reader and never met an animal who didn’t immediately adore her. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Irene Rutherford and niece Camille Knox. She is survived by her sister Susan Rutherford of San Antonio, Texas and niece Cayley Rutherford-Olson who attends University of Mississippi.
