Virgil A. Kitsch, of Mesa, Arizona formerly of Minot and Devils Lake, ND died on Monday, March 21, 2005 at the Banner Mesa Medical Center, Mesa. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, March 30, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Fr. Joseph Christensen will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call at the Gilbertson Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 29, 2005 from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Wednesday will be at the church one hour prior to the Mass. Serving as pallbearers will be Rolf Nestingen, David Kitsch, Douglas Wilkinson, David Wilkinson, Jack Gaa, Roy Lund, Cindy McCarty. Music will be cared for by Janice Allen, Soloist and JoDee Lagein, Organist Virgil Albert Kitsch was born on December 14, 1921 at Starkweather, ND the son of Albert and Minnie (Peterson) Kitsch. He was reared and educated in Starkweather, graduating from Starkweather High School. He farmed with his parents in Sullivan Township. Virgil was united in marriage to Helen Wilkinson on September 4, 1944 at Starkweather. They established their home on his parent’s farm for the next ten years. During this time they also owned and managed a resort on Kitchi Lake in Chippewa National Forest in Minnesota. Virgil then managed elevators in Crary, Karlsruhe, Minot, Berthold, Tioga, Hamer, and then the Minot Farmers Elevator. He retired 18 years ago, and they continued to make their home in Minot. Helen died on February 5, 1997. After Helen’s death, Virgil spent summers in North Dakota with Robert, and winters in Arizona with Daniel. He was a member of St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Minot, the Knights of Columbus, and the Devils Lake Elks Lodge. Virgil is survived by: Daughter: Sharon Samulenok, of Minot, ND Sons: Daniel Kitsch of Arizona Robert Kitsch, also of Minot Grandchildren: William Samulenok, Sara Samulenok, Megan Samulenok, and Rachael Samulenok Great Grandchildren: Alexander Samulenok and Sarika Bonsness Brother: Glen (Donna Lou) Kitsch of Olympia, WA Virgil was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Helen.
