Laverne J. Perkuhn, 64 of Devils Lake, ND formerly of rural Crary, ND died on Saturday morning, March 31, 2007 at her home.
Funeral Services for Laverne will be held on Wednesday, April 4, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, Devils Lake. Pastor Don Reynolds and Rev. Rafe Allison will officiate and burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation on Wednesday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.
Serving as Casket Bearers for Laverne will be Marvin Newgard, Kenny Deplazes, Jerome “Bucky” Joramo, Duane Olson, Dwight Olson and Gerald Johnson.
Honorary Bearers will be the staff of the Heartland Care Center and Laverne’s many friends from “Pops”
Music will be provided by Julie Nelson, soloist and Fay Huffman, pianist.
Laverne Joyce Johnson was born on March 21, 1943 at Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake, ND the daughter of Fred and Vera (Cole) Johnson. She was baptized at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake and confirmed at the United Lutheran Church in Brocket. She was currently a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Doyon. She attended school in Southam and Crary and graduated from Crary High School in 1961. After graduating, she was employed at Christie’s Meat Market and Leever’s Supermarket both of Devils Lake. She then began working at Heartland Care Center in Devils Lake and was recently honored for over 35 years of service.
Laverne was united in marriage to Richard F. Perkuhn in February 18, 1974 in Devils Lake. They established their home on the family farm at rural Crary where they lived through the years. Richard died on April 30, 2005 and Laverne later moved into Devils Lake.
Laverne enjoyed Bingo, playing cards and visiting with her many friends and family.
Laverne was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and employee. Those hard working hands and that gentle, loving smile will be greatly missed.

Ten Grandchildren: Shannon Drury, Candi Perkuhn, Cayla Perkuhn, Ashli Whalen, Andrew Whalen, JErad Bachmeier, Bryan Bachmeier, Cole Hillebrand, Halley Hillebrand and Austin Robinson.
Two Great Grandchildren: Hunter and Zachary Drury

Laverne was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard; son, Scott Perkuhn; granddaughter, Bobbie Jo Nelson; brother-in-law, Marlin Olson and niece, Barbara Herschlip.
