Stanley P. Cavanaugh, 50, Tokio, North Dakota, died Tuesday at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, North Dakota. A Wake will be held at the Tokio Recreation Center on Sunday beginning at 5:00 p.m. with Pastor Larry Thiele officiating at the Prayer Service. There will be time with family and friends beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Monday with final review beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the Tokio Recreation Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 11, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, Tokio with Fr. Charles Leute, O.P. celebrating the Mass. Burial will be in the Native American Cemetery, rural Tokio. Active Casket Bearers for Stanley: R.J. Stanley Patrick was born March 13, 1958 at the Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake, North Dakota the son of William and Gertrude (McKay) Cavanaugh. He attended school at St. Michael, Devils Lake Public School and graduated from the Warwick High School in 1977. He will be remembered by his wrestling high school years with “The Backbreaker”, his race car days with “The Yellow Road Runner” and visiting his friends and relatives on the Pow-Wow Trail. We will miss his jokes and story telling. Stanley served on the Spirit Lake Tribal Council as the Woodlake District Representative from 1985 to 1989. He was also on the Tribal School Board from 1995 to 2008. Stanley’s most beautiful gifts were his grandchildren, Abby, Mattie and Little Richard. He always had an open door to many grandchildren and many friends and families who needed a place to stay. Stanley is survived by his three sons, Richard (Samantha), Travis and Joshua Cavanaugh Eight Grandchildren Two brothers, Billy Dean (Carolyn) Cavanaugh and Greg Cavanaugh; Adopted brother, Walter George (Porgie) Cavanaugh; Three sisters, Jeanine Cavanaugh, Faye (Raymond) Jetty and Darlis (Skip) Longie; Special friend, Rita Wilson; Adopted family, the Redfox families; Many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Randall J. Cavanaugh; his foster brother, Gilbert Fassett; maternal grandparents, Henry and Laura (Lohnes) McKay; paternal grandparents, Walter “Watt” and Alice (Ringing Cloud) Cavanaugh and a special niece, Rondina “Ronee” Longie
