Dorothy M. Bednar, 93 of Devils Lake formerly of Munich, ND died on Wednesday evening, August 3, 2005 at the Heartland Care Center, Devils Lake.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake. Fr. Joseph Christensen and Fr. John Aerts will concelebrate the Mass and burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Devils Lake.
Friends may call at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 7:30 p.m. The Rosary will be led by the Catholic Daughters. Visitation on Saturday will be in the church one hour prior to the funeral service.
Music will be cared for by Kevin Regan, soloist and Audrey Myklebust, organist.
Reading the Scriptures will be Cheryl Hefta
Gift Bearers will be Marissa Regan and Sadie Hefta.
Serving as Casket Bearers will be Arlo Maag, Ron Tholkes, Richard Hagel, Anthony Regan, Fred Wirth, and Dave Myklebust.
Dorothy Marie Bednar was born March 28, 1912 on the family farm in South Prairie Township, Velva, ND, the daughter of Frank and Martha (Tholkes) Nosbusch. At a young age, Dorothy moved with her family to Munich, ND where she was reared and educated, graduating in the class of 1931. She then worked in the family owned restaurant in Munich. She graduated from Molar Barber College in Fargo, ND in 1938. Dorothy moved to San Francisco where she owned and operated the Club Barber Shop 27 years and was the first women to join the Barber’s Union in San Francisco. Dorothy was united in marriage to John Bednar on September 7, 1968 in St. Boniface Catholic Church, San Francisco where they established their home. Dorothy retired in 1976 and returned to North Dakota where she cared for her mother while living in Munich and after moving to Devils Lake in 1982. John died November 28, 1988. Dorothy continued to make her home in Devils Lake. She enjoyed needlework, entertaining and visiting with her many friends.
Dorothy was a former member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Altar Society and Christian Mothers all of Munich. She was now a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Infant of Prague Circle, Catholic Daughters and the Elks Auxiliary all of Devils Lake.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Bednar; sister, Leona Janowski; brothers-in law, Alphonse S. Michels and Edwin Janowski.
Memorials may be directed to Mercy Hospital Hospice program, St. Joseph Catholic Church Music Fund and Cardinal Muench Seminary.
